Damn I always forget that bears can't climb.
They completely ignored our rig on the Rubicon while focusing on soft tops and (of course) Gladiators. Momma and cubs came back a few times during the night for more.

Surprisingly we met a family in a soft top begging for food after having everything taken by a bear.

Just anecdotal, of course, but they ignored our SOT.

Sounds like someone didn't follow basic rules about camping in bear areas

Do you mean all of the Rubicon Trail?

We were trying to figure out what the wires on house doors around Lake Tahoe were for. Eventually realized they were electric to keep the bears away.

Apparently those people didn't read your basic rules about staying out of bear areas!

That's why you ALWAYS bring someone that can't run as fast AND wheel with someone that has a soft top!

Yeah, all of the trail. You remove food from the Jeep, string it up between two trees. Keeps the bears from eating your food, might save you trouble with the Jeep. Same as camping/backpacking in areas that have bear.

Eh, with no food in the Jeep, no doors, no windows worst I'll get is some interior or top deck damage. They'll come for your SOT after they realize I got nothing they want:

Mm. I might prefer a 7mm Remington Magnum for that particular task.
Eh, modern hot 45-70 loads can put out 3500+ ft lb of KE at the muzzle, and with the bigger diameter bullet to boot. Same kind of KE as 7mm RM, but with more mass.

Tired again
I use an Alien mesh Sunshade, which has been in there for two years. There's just enough mesh to make a significant difference in sun/heat comfort, and makes a really big difference with wind and wind-noise, especially with the doors off.

The open mesh is a lot different than Safari mode. For me, If I'm taking the window panels out, I'm dropping the whole top anyways.

This particular shade attaches using ball-bungees, and while you can drop the windshield to make installation easier, this came with a thin plastic tool to fish the bungees through. The bungees tend to pull the shade to the middle of the roll cage height-wise, so you do lose some headroom. I'm 6' tall, average build, and my head doesn't touch it. Some baseball hats I wear do, but not all. YMMV.

I have been thinking about getting one of these off and on for years now. you may have pushed me over the edge.
I feel like AZ is the perfect climate for this type of functionality.

So I got the same brand, but for my 4 door I made sure to get the single piece that covers front and back seats, as opposed to the 2 separate pieces. Because it has to stretch up and over the B pillar crossmember, you actually end up with more headroom.

Not to harp but the SOT is a must have for a JEEP in 2024, to many advantages over disadvantages.
My least favorite of the tops. I can see the advantage of being open and closed like a sunroof but it ends there. It is by far the least appealing looking of the options with the windows pulled off. Hard and soft top look much better opened up.

My neighbor purchased a Rubicon with the SOT. He uses it in a straightforward manner, which is solely as a power sliding fabric sunroof. In that particular use case, it's a really neat feature to have on a Wrangler, IMO.

Yes, removing the side window panels makes the vehicle look...special.

My point exactly!!! Always, always bring a sacrificial "friend" with a soft top Wrangler so that doesn't happen to you!!!
