My steering wheel has been catching since it has gotten colder this is back in October the first time I noticed it. It acts like it won’t turn when you go around curves so I took it into the FEENY dealer here in Gaylord MI
And they stated that it had to be my steering damper became they’ve located a dent on it.
They charged us for the visit stating that it wasn’t a warranty issue and they didn’t feel right charging Chrysler when they couldn’t prove it was or wasn’t.
Fast forward to yesterday 12/29/18
We since replaced the underneath with YETI steering stabilizer ect.
On our way home driving the highway at about 75 mph there is a curve
Steering feels tight to begin with and as I’m trying to turn into the curve my wheel is not budging! I was headed straight for the side of the road I had to break hard and try to turn at the same time and it finally broke loose
I am afraid to drive it for fear of it locking up and not breaking loose and killing myself or any passengers
I need a recommended dealership that won’t push me away and CHARGE Me for a damn service when It clearly I s a warranty issue 100%

I’ve had the same issue. Almost caused me to wreck on an overpass curve. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the steering module. It’s still doing the same thing when it’s below freezing. Very frustrating and dangerous situation.

I had the tsb done and I still have the issues. Seems to happen when its under 30 degrees. Last Wednesday I left for work and it was 27 degrees. I had a 15 mile hike to NYC and it was locking up the entire ride then break loose then tighten up.

Hmm glad I found this thread. It happens to me as well in colder temperatures and low speeds (usually the first drive of the day) and it seems to go away after the first 5-10 minutes.

I’ve been having the same issue as well. In the 30’s* F for first 5 mins locked up. Took to dealer, they haven’t got a clue. Has anyone had this issue and the tsb above fixed the problem?

1st visit: Replaced steering pump
-issue was still there but better...(didnt lock up as tight)
2nd visit: Showed them TSB, they applied without questions.
-Havent had the problem come back...but temp here have been around 40 so well see when it gets colder.

BTW my lock ups only happened at highway speeds 50mph+ while turning Left only.

So there is a TSB to fix this, which the dealership did not know about and the buyer had to pay for a part for a poorly diagnosed problem? I know they claimed a dent, but really?

I’m having the same issue. It just started yesterday. 8849 miles on the JL. Hasn’t done it before so it scared the crap out of me. Mine does it at highway speeds and while turning left or right. I can fight the steering wheel and push it past the point of resistance to get it to turn. Hoping this tsb fixes it or I’m gonna be really pissed
