Steering wheel locking up

I started my jeep and was heading to pick up my daughter this morning (20 minute ride and 28 degrees) and it was locking up the entire time. Once I got there and shut the vehicle off I had no more issues for the day . It has to be a loose connection some place

April build here, have never had any issues with this until this morning. Binds when trying to go left or right at anything over 60mph. Hard to even change lanes. As soon as I get under 60 its better. It’s cold(30) but has been colder and have not had the issue. No idea why it just started but I will be calling the dealer first thing in the morning. Hoping the tsb works.

I did bring it in and the dealer pushed the tsb since my jeep wasn't on the recall list. and it still does it . It seems to happen when it below 35 degrees. I used it all summer with 0 issues . I think its that Chinese crap aluminum gear box. Are there any upgrades for the steering box? My daughter loves driving in the jeep but I always take the pickup because I'm nervous about this lock up issue. Until there is a fix it would be useless to drop off my jeep and let them rip it apart. So I'm just waiting ...and waiting

If the steering lock again happens after the 'fix'...I would recommend contacting the NHTSA and letting them know. You may be saving quite a few lives.

I would recommend that if you have had it happen you report it, no matter if the TSB fixes it or not. This should be a recall as it is a safety issue. I made my report, here is a link.

this is a serious safety issue, everyone experiencing it needs to use the NHTSA link above to report it

I had mine serviced. They did the tsb, power assist pump responded fine, they found the steering gear box to be binding up. They replaced my whole gear box and i havent had a problem since

Just got the JL two weeks ago and my girlfriend has had some close calls driving in the canyons due to this issue. Plan on calling a dealership close by to try the fixes listed by everyone. Also, plan on reporting it as she could of been seriously injured as the steering wheel locked while she was doing some sharp turns going in the direction of oncoming traffic. Planning on not driving it at all until it is fixed.

Just reported this problem to the dealership and they said I needed to upgrade my sway bar and the tires were over inflated. They had no clue about the tsb. I have the problem and the temps are between 75 and 85 degrees so it is not a temp issue.

Man dealers are the absolute worse. I live in southern NM and it didn’t get below 50F last night and my steering wheel was stiff as hell. So tired of this garage and my damned stereo resetting when I plug my iPhone in/do nothing.

1st visit: Replaced steering pump
-issue was still there but better...(didnt lock up as tight)
2nd visit: Showed them TSB, they applied without questions.
-Havent had the problem come back...but temp here have been around 40 so well see when it gets colder.

BTW my lock ups only happened at highway speeds 50mph+ while turning Left only.

Mine is doing this also just to the left did you fix it ? First time on me today

Nope, it did in fact come back but I've sold it nearly 2 years ago so I'd hope they have it figured out by now.
