Steering wheel locking up

This is seriously concerning. Contemplating getting rid of the Jeep after reading this thread.

Currently my 50k Jeep has a broken radio that no one seems to know how to fix.

You're amazing. This started happening to me and My service center had no clue. I showed them this and they took care of it. Love this site and community.☮

Don't get too secure. I had them do it on mine, and mine is still locking up. Happened to me this morning in fact.

happened to my 2018 JLUR this morning. I really thought I was going to crash. cold morning below 40 degrees traveling above 60 mph on a sweeping left hand curve. It would not turn left until i slowed down and applied brake

Offcamber,

Have you made your dealer aware that the TSB did not resolve your concern?

To those who have had the TSB and still have lockups: whats your build date? Trying to see if this is only affecting certain builds. Id this is randomly affecting builds of all dates that'd suck.

Mine has been perfect since the TSB (3 months) and there has been some cold days. I honestly think there are two totally different issues out there.

It’s been over a week for mine and so far it’s good despite cold weather as well.

I started my jeep and was heading to pick up my daughter this morning (20 minute ride and 28 degrees) and it was locking up the entire time. Once I got there and shut the vehicle off I had no more issues for the day . It has to be a loose connection some place

April build here, have never had any issues with this until this morning. Binds when trying to go left or right at anything over 60mph. Hard to even change lanes. As soon as I get under 60 its better. It’s cold(30) but has been colder and have not had the issue. No idea why it just started but I will be calling the dealer first thing in the morning. Hoping the tsb works.

I think the primary question is how to be proactive with this problem. No recall that I know of which means the Jeep response is "we're OK with a locking steering wheel while driving, endangering your family, risking a head on collision, just bring it in and we'll fix it once it occurs". If Jeep wasn't OK with this response, they'd issue a recall on certain models, within certain build dates.

Come on Jeep and Jeepcares, please be proactive on this problem and recall the affected Jeeps. The longer you wait, the more exposed you are to a lawsuit once someone gets killed and the more tarnished the brand becomes.

If the steering lock again happens after the 'fix'...I would recommend contacting the NHTSA and letting them know. You may be saving quite a few lives.
