First off, apologies if this has been posted in the wrong section. I thought about putting it down in the maintenance area. But, the engine section seemed to make more sense as it’s directly related to my engine.

Can anyone tell me where in the JScan app I can set the auto start stop to disabled for my 2023 3.6L Rubixon? I don’t like the auto start stop feature and I forget to press the button all the time.

Thanks in advance!

Jscan will not deactivate the auto stop start function. There are plenty of options, that are easily searchable. The tazer is one of them. I use the smartstopstart. It is a simple plug in module that gives the button memory so it will remain off.

I have been using the Smart StopStart for some time now. It works perfectly unlike other solutions, is reasonable priced and offers superior technical support if you ever have any questions about it or how it works.

I originally was going to go with the Tazer but decided against it when I saw the price and the lack of a customer service/tech support line. I sent them a number of questions via their email that was never answered.

Not only that THIS DEVICE does not modify any of the code in your Jeep and is easily removed within a few minutes if you have to go in for service.

No need to un-marry. Simply unplug it and your back to stock.

And if you still wish to use the Stop/start function simply press the button to re-enable ESS.

I am sure this has been asked, I tried to search, but, can anyone provide a link to purchase the SmartStartStop unit at the discounted price?

Thanks in advance!

@5280Jeep

Go here and message Steve, the owner of SmartStopStart.
https://www.smartstopstart.com/contact-us.html

Mention to him you are a JLWrangler forums member and would he please sell you one of his SSS units to you for $99.

Steve, in the past stated he was willing to sell for $99 to forum members that reached out to him. I'm confident he will oblige.

You'll make a very good decision going with the original SmartStopStart unit and not an iffy, large footprint, clunky, iffy, knockoff.

Looks like JScan can do it now. Not sure when the update happened. You'd lose remote start, but I don't have it anyway on my build.

Does anyone use this method and have feedback?

The trick here is to disconnect one of the hood monitoring plunger. In this case the remote start one.
I guess if you are on the cheap side maybe but I do think a module like SSS would do a better job for a small price.

@TerraJL Spend a little extra for the Tazer, maybe find it on the classifieds for a deal. Extra features are worth having.

Agreed. I started with the auto stop start eliminator, then added JSCAN, then went to the Tazer. I should have just started with the Tazer. Also Tazer has refurbished units from time to time.

I use JSCAN but as stated you cant use remote start once you disable with JSCAN as I believe it disables the hood switch and also turns off the message that the hood is open so I use Jscan for tires, lights etc and use a Smart Stop/Start module and it has worked perfect for several years and no programming to use just plug it in and it remembers the last position of ESS

Does work with Jscan?
This feature described is part of the Jscan app, and therefore works with it.

Perhaps you were asking if this "works." It does, but as pointed out it's more of a kludge that's designed to leverage a technique for disabling the ESS system by disconnected a Hood Ajar Sensor: a technique long ago discussed before Jscan.

I think this leaves the ESS off light in dash on (not to be confused with the light on the ESS off button): something to consider if you don't like such lights appearing in your dash.

Forum experts have suggested that we don't want this ESS pff light on in the EVIC (i.e. dash) because its illumination can make us aware of problems that its constant on state might mask.

If you're running all but an early model 2018 dual AGM battery JL, on such dual battery vehicles, simply disconnecting the ground cable on the main battery's negative post that is connected at its other end to the Aux battery's negative post (i.e. not the cable on the main battery's negative post whose other end is the body ground on the passsenger's front panel at top: leave that connected!) essentially does the same thing: Your first crank will fail, but your second and those thereafter will go solely against the main battery, illuminating this ESS off light in the dash.

(This is NOT to be confused with the technique that ALSO pulls Fuse 42, which will keep the ESS off light in the dash from appearing because doing so prevents the Power Control Relay (PCR) from energizing, and separating the batteries, where calls for electrical current from either battery go to all connected batteries, of which only your main battery remains connected. This additional step requires though for you to turn ESS off as its best not to run ESS on one battery in the dual AGM battery JLs.)

Start stop devices, whether dedicated hardware for that, or the JL Tazer which also does other things use a different mechanism to turn ESS off that doesn't illuminate the light in the dash.

They speak CANBUS, if you will, and remember the state of the ESS off button between cold cranks (something your JL is NOT allowed to do by EPA standards, defaulting to ESS on state on each cold crank, in order to qualify for reporting more favorably MPG ratings). If you turned ESS off at the button last time you drove, this tech will remember that issue the appropriate CANBUS commands to turn it off again when you cold crank.

In JSCAN you have to select both items circled, the first one circled disables the hood ajar and the second turns off the message that will be displayed in the EVIC

So by doing this will the Jeep operate like the start stop illuminator? Are there any differences between the two?

Please share what you mean by the terminology "start stop illuminator." Is it the ESS off light in the dash, the ESS off button you press, both, or yet something else (e.g. a device expressly designed to turn start stop off)?
