They say regear brings factory acceleration back.

So what if i go with 5.13s instead of 4.88s on 35s for example. Does this mean ill accelerate faster with 5.13s?

The only reason id ever regear is if it made my jeep faster off the lights. Is it worth it for me?

Yes, the numerically higher the gear ratio, the faster the vehicle will accelerate

Also increases your RPM at the same speed in top gear, normally resulting in worse MPG.

I just re-geared to 4.88 with 35" tires. If you are only going to run 35's, I would stay with 4.88. It made my Rubicon much better than even 4.10 with 33's. Holds 8th gear, no lugging, and bottom end acceleration was never this good with 4.10.

With that said, I'll be upgrading to 37's soon to gain a bit more ground clearance.

More mechanical advantage means more shifts between you and your goal. My BRZ was geared for crazy mechanical advantage. It would go into 6th at 30 mph, but that meant it topped out in second before 60 mph (requiring 2 shifts for 0-60 sprints) and screamed down the highway at 3500 rpm in 6th gear, even in sedate highway driving.

Horses for courses.

Basically, high speed efficiency, or starting line acceleration, choose one.

Third option: throw money at torque until you get both.

I do start/stop city traffic for hours on end, but also 50 mile cruises, so I'm right in the middle.

How is your top end? I have to drive highway lots so i need to passing power.

No issues; I have had it up to 85 and it did not feel like it was topped out. 4.88 with 35's is geared a little lower than 4.10 with 33's, but not so low that you have capped the upper end (whatever that may be).

I've got 4.88 and 37's, but would love to have 5.13's to have a little bit more holding power for 8th gear. I made up for this with the Livernois tune, but gearing always helps more that HP. I'm ok with the current driving conditions of the JL, but more HP/TQ is always appreciated. Fiat/Jeep has failed with their current motor options, with only the 392 being plenty enough for the JL platform. The 2.0 and 3.6 are grossly underpowered and should be scrapped. There are plenty of other motors out there by other manufacturers producing more HP/TQ that are the same size.

Option 4: choose a transmission with more gears.

OP: there are diminishing returns eventually, but I doubt you will ever get there with your choice of gears. You can try this yourself by putting your Jeep in 4-low and flooring it... the transmission will fail to keep up with the rapid engine acceleration.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
I have 37s with 5.13 gears. The acceleration with the 5.13 gears are much better. I also have the 8 speed auto.

Still get good mileage, the RPMS are about 2100 to 2200 at 70 mph.

Can easily spin the tires off the line.
