Not sure why. Mine is still chugging along. Wonder if the OTA update on the Radio has anything to do with it.

Sad to report this doesn’t work on my 2024, probably going to return as well.

I mean, if you dont mind, the easiest and simplest solution that I’ve been using since I bought my Jeep almost two years ago is:

  1. Buy StarTech.com 1 ft Mini USB 2.0 Cable - USB A to Mini B F/M - USB Cable - USB (F) to Mini-USB Type B (M) - USB 2.0-1 ft - Black - USBMUSBFM1 from amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B004ZMYEMY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  2. Remove the buttons panel, the one where you have AC/volume controls. Below it you’ll find the a usb cable that connects to it and runs back to the center console.
  3. Remove the cable above, connect the adapter you bought from Amazon and connect any USB cable to it.
Done, works forever.

The problem is the cable jeep used to connect the centre console port back to the panel is garbage, thats why it’s so unreliable and sometimes it works better with different cables.

Doing what I said above you completely eliminate this variable.

Also the other USB port on the dash will still work fine
This seems like it would work. Are you saying replace the entire cable that goes between the head unit and center console? Is it easy to get back there?

@wrang_stang @Philly_ OMG. LOL. GREAT POINT.

24's DO have Wireless Carplay so there is NO need for this setup. Totally flew right over my head. Wow...

Totally been there! ?

Glad you can avoid the trouble of dealing with this! Such a bummer to hear that it’s still a problem with the 2024 models. It would be nice if Jeep would just make it work from the factory.

I’ll probably pull my dash and center console apart at some point in an attempt to upgrade the wiring and make this work properly. I hate having cables plugged into the ports in the dash. It looks cluttered, my passengers always end up stepping on them if they fall into the wheel well, and having the cover open on trail exposes the ports to dust and grime.

Don’t the 24’s have wireless CarPlay?

I would just use a port that doesn’t connect to Uconnect to charge and connect wirelessly.
I really dislike wireless. It’s so laggy with regards to audio, causes your phone to get hot, and kills battery life in a way that wired perfectly solves those problems.

I have a question for you all....

Is this expected behavior? Is it in a technical document that this does NOT connect your phone to the dash unit? If not and the vehicle is sold under the full understanding that this WILL connect your phone to the head unit, wouldn't that mean that these are warranty claim/repairs? If the dealer says, "sorry, nothing we can do", then, wouldn't Jeep fix it for us on their dime?

@COJeeper So..here is my feeling on all of this (and I did get a new Nissan Murano years ago under the lemon law).

There will be SO much arguing, back and forth, plus down time without your ride that I really do not think its worth it.

Should Jeep make this right? Of course they should. But as a lot of us know now, the world sucks, people suck, companies suck, and no one gives a F anymore about you or what you buy.

I wouldn't put it past the dealer to do some harm out of spite if you make too much of a big deal about it OR they keep you waiting as long as humanly possible until you give up.

What is super ironic is that they love to tell you all the benefits of JEEP ownership when you are buying the Jeep, but then when it is time to take advantage of those benefits, they are not what was promised. No rental, extreme delays in ordering, that's not covered, etc..

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my Rubi. I really do. I cant see myself owning anything else right now. But the people behind this brand are not good people and only care about making money no matter how hard they screw over their customers.

Its sad to type all of this, but its the truth.

I feel ya, no disagreement. I cannot discuss any details about my experience with anything about anything related or unrelated to anything because I signed an NDA. I think it's legal for me to say I signed an NDA, I'm not telling you what was included in the NDA, just that I cannot talk about the details inside of it. If there are any lawyers here, please tell me if I'm wrong.

Just pulled it out, it says, "Except as permitted by law, I agree to not talk about the details of this agreement and release to anyone." So, I'm not talking about the details, I'm just telling the world that I signed an NDA, think whatever you want about it with your imagination, I will not confirm nor deny any of your assumptions.

So, basically, for no specific reason, I'm telling the world that I once signed an NDA about something with someone. lol

I would make a terrible lawyer.

Several months ago I did this for my 2021, routing a new USB cable to the center console from the dash USB hub; it didn't solve the issue. It's not difficult, a couple of hours to disassemble and route the cable, then put everything together. As evidenced in this thread alone, the success rate is hit-or-miss for proposed fixes.

if this didn't do it, what is the next thing to try? directly splice a new USB cable and terminal? or should we assume at this point that the problem is not (just) physical, i.e. some software issue is messing with our heads?

Full disclosure - I know nothing about this, but if running a cable doesn't fix it I genuinely don't know what other options exist.

In my case, an Offroam vent mount phone holder for the occasions I want to use CarPlay and I plug into the dash media hub…I leave a USB drive plugged into the center console, and occasionally it too disconnects.

Thinking back, I ran the new 6’ cable from dash media hub to the console’s usb port. Maybe the media hub is garbage, I think a previous poster suggested an adapter from the dash usb cable to a new cable that bypassed the hub? I remember when I was in there it seemed to me I needed to plug into the hub otherwise I lost complete functionality of either the front or console ports. Maybe the OEM usb port inside the console that I plugged the new cable into is garbage.

I thought about a Gibson Leatherworks phone mount down low next to the shifter, but it looks like those are no longer available. Then I considered a CMM Offroad phone mount also near the shifter but I thought it’s expensive for what it is…anything but dash mount. My neighbor gave me his Offroam holder, and it’s mounted in a way that’s not obtrusive.

That’s how my journey went with the stupid center console USB port…

I truly believe this is a software issue. If the phone "connects" via the hardware (even a new physical cable you have installed" that eliminates the hardware side.

It never worked for me starting the day I took delivery. Once I added the adapter and new cable, its worked. And its still working just as it did the day I connected everything.

Honestly, I do not think Jeep really cares. Its not an inconvenience for them, its not a safety issue so why would they care? Sad, yes.
