Is this accurate? I have never heard/seen that either soft top can be put back with the side/rear windows in place.

As for what to go for - all I've ever known are soft tops -and I have no desire to own a hard top or SOT. To me, Jeep = soft top and doors off (my doors have been off since May, and looking at the weather for the next 10 days here in NEPA, they're not going back on anytime soon).
The sunrider flips back with the rear window in. Still need to pull the windows to do a full drop.

That's what I thought. You can flip the Sunrider back with the windows in on any Sunrider-equipped soft top, premium or otherwise.

Yes. You can also remove the rear windows (no more zippers. Yay!) And fold it all the way back into the cargo area.

No it's not false. Read it carefully. I didn't say to lower it all the way, just back to behind the rear seats....basically to where the SOT puts it.

Amen to that. As far as I'm concerned, the soft top on the JL is the single biggest improvement they made over previous generations. The zippers on my JK were the bane of my existence for years..

I mean, first off, if you're paying the bill, then it doesn't matter what your parents say/think. Let them make decisions on the Jeep that THEY'RE buying.

If you want a soft top, buy a soft top. $5K is A LOT of change that could be better spent elsewhere. That much scratch will get you a nice lift + tires/wheels, fully installed.

I would encourage you to try to find a soft top that you can drive on the freeway. Either at a dealership (might be hard at the moment) or join a local Jeep club and ask if someone will let you take theirs out (with them riding, I'm sure).

I went hard top for a few reasons, but after having it for a few months, and going through the process of taking the top off, I'm definitely looking forward to buying a soft top for the summer months.

The rear window staying in place is what killed it for us. We went dual top, soft in summer and hard in winter.

As long as you can store the hard top, I'd say dual top is definitely the best option.

The only way I'd really consider SOT is if I lived in an area where you would not want to run the soft top year round (like, say NY) AND did not have a place to store the hard top when off. Then the SOT would get you 80% of what you want, and let you do it as often as you can with the soft top. Going hard top only with no storage would severely limit how often you could go topless.

I live in ny, I know you have to baby the windows and take care of the soft top, 80% is not bad, but with the convertible the back not being able to come off looks like it sucks, do you still feel like all the tops down when it back?

It's a personal preference. I have had the Sky One Touch for about two months now. I love the convenience of it. The downside for me is that you cannot go completely topless. Although some folks have removed the Sky One Touch roof, you're not supposed to. Honestly, it looks like a PITA to do so as well. I went with the SOT because of the convienence and thought it would be rare that I would want to go completely topless. Since I have had the Jeep a couple of months I realize I would like to go completely topless. I guess it is a case of wanting what i can't have. I am already planning my next Jeep and it will be a hard top that I would quickly buy a fastback style soft top to use in summers. Oh, but I will be keeping the Jeep with the SOT though!
Does the feeling of the sot feel nice with it back and doors off, do you like the feature and feel like a keep still?

Hey everyone,

i want the soft top on the jeep because its classic, nice looking, and completes the jeep. if I'm buying a jeep I'm doing it right. my parents are trying to convince me the convertible top thing is worth the extra 5 gs. What do you guys think about the two? I don't care about the extra money, just looking at what everyone thinks.

i know soft top there're certain things you must do to take care of it. if you think soft tops are better please let me know how they are. in the winter. i live in the northeast so winters can be brutal
Soft top 100%. Once I got mine, the hard top sat in the yard and collected dust.

Absolutely! I have no regrets of getting the SOT and would do so again in a heartbeat.

For the people that have the Skytouch, do you take out the rear quarter windows much (it looks pretty easy since it has latches like the HT)? With the windows out, how is the wind inside the vehicle when your moving?

TJ was horrible too. I finally just took the whole soft top off and keep it garaged for beach days only. The hard top is hanging nearby and never gets used. The JL gets used a lot thus time if year with unpredictable weather.
