Hi All... looking for any thoughts, advice, before spending $800 bucks+- on Rusty's tire carrier...

2020 JLU... 35x12.5 Ridgegrapplers, Fuel 17" alloy wheel, stock carrier, rusty's lic plate holder, steel tire relo bracket, steel tailgate reinforcement (like mopar but cheaper one) all hanging off the back of my tailgate. Aside from occasional rattle, the tailgate sags to where the latch hits the top of the slot it goes into. Looks like the tailgate rides up about .25" when it connects to the latch...meaning it seems the all this weight is causing the tailgate to sag. I've adjusted the plastic striker (whatever it's called). I also thought maybe hinges needed to be adjusted, so I closed and shimmed the tailgate, loosened and tightened them up, but it's the same. I've read many threads that say the tg should be able to handle 35" etc, but seems tires + all the extras are too much weight.

I have Rusty's bumpers, sliders, etc. and really like the look, quality, and made in USA. Like I said I'm very close to pulling the trigger on Rusty's tire carrier, but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts. Thank you.

There are a few threads talking about it. Google Rusty's and JLWranglerforum.

Also, don't discount other carriers. I have the CavFab Elite and it's an amazing piece of work. Perfect welds, super easy install.

Just installed Rusty’s tire carrier this weekend. This thing is a beast and the quality is great. I would recommend it. No rattles anymore

Nice! I really like their stuff. Did you drill the holes?

I installed the Rusty's carrier over a year ago. Couldn't be happier. And also no rattles what so ever. I drilled the holes and found that I my eyes don't even notice the extra support. A 37 inch tire pretty much covers it up. With the extra weight of the tire I welcomed the extra support of the brace as I am constantly getting into the back of the jeep. I could agree with some saying they don't think it's needed as the carrier is plenty tough enough without it. I think it just helps. To each is own.

I'm thinking about buying one. Does anyone have a promo code or discount for Rustys?

I did not drill the holes. Thought about it hard but the way this thing is built I decided it didn’t really need them. If I was on a 40 I probably would but since I’m on 37s I decided not to. It is still very solid. The whole Jeep moves if you try to shake the tire

It really has very little to do with the size of the tire/wheel combo and almost everything to do with the weight. Unfortunately, Nittos are extremely heavy tires for their size and you are on the right path with adding a carrier.

No experience with Rusty's but the Cavfab carrier is incredibly stout and easy to install.

Finally ordered it. It's sitting in my garage now! I'm pretty sure I'm going to drill the holes, so I just need to get some primer or something for protection. I am a liiitle concerned about the positioning of the brake light, so I might put one of those led ones on the lic plate.
