Small update. I recently noticed the black powder coat finish on the mounting brackets that hold my Baja Designs LP4's was coming off.
IMG_6417.jpg

Seeing that the brackets were stainless steel, I decided to strip the remaining powder coat off to reveal the stainless steel. I'm a fan of natural metal finishes.

Here they are stripped clean.

I love the look of the stainless steel against the black housings. Maybe Baja Designs should consider skipping the powder coat altogether?

So...I wanted to add some protection for the FAD.

Because of the way my steering stabilizer was installed, I needed these two kits...

So you decided to convert the OEM version of the Nexus stabilizer to the top mount and bolt through the track bar bolt? I've been on the fence on which way to go. Did you ever have concerns with your current setup catching that Stabilizer on rocks etc? I got the Artec FAD skid and I think it's compatible with your current install.

Hi JJ! Yes, exactly. Here's a pic of my previous install.

The stabilizer resided directly behind the track bar, tucked up nicely, so I was never concerned about me smashing it on the trail.

Where it mounted on the axle was in the way of the MetalCloak FAD skid which uses the same bolts, which was the reason I ordered the relocation kit from TeraFlex.

Let me know if the Artec FAD skid works with the OEM version of the Nexus SS mount. That would be great info to have.

Thanks Steven! It works with the OEM stabilizer so I think it will work with your stabilizer however I can’t confirm that at this time.

I’m thinking it would be fine with your current setup?

Thanks for the pic. I think you are right as to it working with OEM SS location mount.

I grabbed a couple of quick screen shots off the MetalCloak website for comparison. You can see how much more area the MC skid covers. Interesting how different companies arrive at different solutions right?

Are you running any other Artec skids, lower shock mounts?

Yea it is always interesting to see how the various companies come up with their different ideas. Yes I am also running the Artec rear lower shock skids.

Nice, I'm glad we've been exchanging ideas here as the Artec rear lower shock skids have been on my list. Have they been running quietly for you? What did you torque the shock side bolt to?

You're awesome my friend! Just ordered a set.

I'm seriously considering doing weldon
Yea. No complaints at all. Haven’t heard a sound from them. Lower shock torqued to 75 and Lower control arm to 90 per the Mopar lift instructions.

You're awesome my friend! I just ordered a set, thanks. Appreciate your thoughts/wisdom.

I'm seriously considering ordering a set of weld on skids for the front LCA's. Thoughts?

Glad I could help you finally. Your thread has helped me a lot!!
You know I’ve struggled with that too. Welding is one skill/tools I don’t have so I’ve been slow to get there but a front skid would be nice.

Are you guys hitting your LCAs often? Personally, frequency and severity of hitting something I don't want hit feed into my decision for weld-on skids more so than bolt on. Always good to remember that skids are actually a consumable item and must be replaced as they get beat up, and that's obviously tougher with weld-on skids. So, if it's not something you're smashing often or overly hard, meh. Wire wheel and rattle can to keep it from rusting after you do hit it on the rare occasion and call it good.

However, if you're constantly smashing them, and there are no good bolt-on options (assuming axle-side LCA bracket here, and there really aren't great bolt-on options IMO), then weld-on is a good choice.
