Did you ever get your steering box changed out Steven?
Hi, I missed responding to your question earlier. I'm still running the aluminum steering box. My steering has always been good so I don't feel the need to change it out.

I do however have some steering upgrades in the works, that being Metalcloak's Track Bar Reinforcement Bracket along with their new Sector Shaft Brace. After that, I plan on talking Apex regarding their boost kit.

Steven,

Great build journal! I noticed early on that you were using the MORE Fire Extinguisher and are using the AAL MASS Cargo Shelf. Are you still able to use the MORE Fire Extinguisher with the cargo shelf? I know they both attach to the soft top mounting locations so wasn't sure if both could be ran at the same time?

In a later pic, it looks like you are but thought I would ask. Thinking of doing something similar but wasn't sure if it would work together.

Thanks!

Jason

Hi Jason, appreciate the compliment and great hearing from you✌?

I am running the M.O.R.E. fire extinguisher bracket with the AAL MASS Shelf. I'll post a pic when I get to show you that.

Hi Jason,

Here's a couple of pics I promised.

As you can see, I simply flipped the M.O.R.E. bracket to make it work with the AAL MASS Shelf. The elastic bands hold in place securely and you can still remove the fire extinguisher in seconds. Hit me up with any questions you may have.

Steven,

thank you so much! Is it safe to assume that the MORE holder in its normal position won’t work with the AAL shelf unless it’s lowered? I’m assuming the height you have it set to is because of the cooler on the slide

last question: Did you use longer bolts than supplied?

sorry for all the questions! I’d like to add a shelf to make the cargo space a little more user friendly and not a fan of my current roll bar fire extinguisher holder. I really like the versatility of the AAL shelf and you’re the only person I’ve seen who is using both

thanks!

You are correct, the F.E. bracket will not clear the shelf at the height I'm running mine, hence the inverted mounting.

I am running my MASS Shelf at the highest mounting point which allows my cooler/slide to fit. If the shelf is mounted in a lower configuration, you might be able to use the F.E. bracket right side up. I am using the bolts supplied with the AAL MAAS Shelf. The whole setup runs absolutely silent. I also like that the F.E. mounted where it is utilises the space well.

Here's a few more pics that will show the exact mounting location.

And this last pic so you can see how it all relates.

Details, Details...

Small update. I recently noticed the black powder coat finish on the mounting brackets that hold my Baja Designs LP4's was coming off.

Seeing that the brackets were stainless steel, I decided to strip the remaining powder coat off to reveal the stainless steel. I'm a fan of natural metal finishes.

Here they are stripped clean.

I love the look of the stainless steel against the black housings. Maybe Baja Designs should consider skipping the powder coat altogether?
