I got the Jeep bug after my friend tossed me, our shooting gear, and our night vision gear into his ’98 TJ and showed me how amazing they are at carting my a** to places I would normally have to lug Way too much equipment. If you haven’t cruised around at night with night vision, I highly recommend it. It adds a whole new dimension (or lack of depth perception) to the experience. Since he parks his Jeep in the winter (NH salt kills cars) and I wanted a vehicle of my own to keep up, I bought a 2021 JLU Willys Sport and promptly proceeded to add a 2” Mopar lift with BFG KO2 35s. Then came the IR headlights, dual air compressor, ORO Swayloc, light skid plates, etc. Turns out that my girlfriends long haired German Shepherd loves the Jeep as much, if not more, than all of us, hence the name Freedom Fur.
Well, 6 months later with the desire to do more and too much time on my hands, I committed to purchasing a 2022 JLUR with the Xtreme Recon package and some other trims to basically get the ability to throw on 37s and have e-lockers instead of tearing out the axles on my Willys. I believe it is due for delivery in Jan - Feb. Here is a snapshot of the parts ordered for it and the parts that I will be transferring over. The biggest uncertainty is how well the stock suspension flexes. Once I have the Jeep in hand I will be doing some tests and then putting together any necessary kits to maximize articulation.
Carvana offered me $42,000 for my Willys Sport stripped of everything except for the bumpers and skids on the bottom (front/rear differentials + Engine/Transmission). I will end up posting it locally for a little more and see if anyone wants it with or without the ORO Swayloc installed, then use them as a backup route.
Current Jeep pic attached.
