Jeep Wrangler JL RTT or this? E44107BA-9317-4CB2-8A58-7840C00498F1

You really have 2 options if you want to camp in 2 door

1. RTT. Usually bulky unless you want to shell out 4k for a ikamper mini. Drags down your mpg if it’s your daily. Not compatible with sunrider. Takes up entire roof.
2. Sleeping in the jeep. You have to be like less than 5foot to fit in the back laying down lol. I’ve seen people make little extenders so they can lay down flat with the seats moved forward.

ORRRR
someone can develop a collapsible bed extender that is supported by the hitch/ frame. Combine this with an awning or cover (like the thumbnail), I think this would be the best solution for a two door. The company that was developing this, crewbed, was bought by a different company and looks like they took the idea to the grave.

I know you didn’t list it, but what’s wrong with a floor tent? After using my friends RTT, I’m happy with my floor tent. Cheaper and just as fast to setup.
That’s true. The main thing I hate about tents is how long they take to set up. Any quick set up tents out there?

One thing I’ve learned is, the more you use it the faster you get. Also, smaller tents are easier and faster to set-up. Lastly, with a ground tent you can move your vehicle without packing up again.
This is what I have , fits two but use it for myself. Packs up small, too.

That 2nd option sounds like as much or more work to setup as a ground tent would. Like Jeepn' said if you go with a smaller (read more reasonable sized) tent they arent that difficult to setup and modern tents alone are easier than older ones. We have an older verison of the REI Co-Op Half Dome and we can have the footprint down, tent up and rainfly on in ~5mins. Practice really does make perfect in setting up a tent.

Add in a nice sleeping pad and its not an awful experience. Also the biggest benefit to the Ground Tent and RTTs is you dont have to leave EVERYTHING out of your Jeep to sleep. We used to sleep in the back of our Xterra and the worst part was having to move all the stuff that you want to leave locked up to the front seats to setup the bed.

On the RTT front sure its super easy to set up but if you want to go for any type of night drive, or multi day camp in the same location you have to tear it down every time you leave.

Overall Im super happy switching to a ground tent over in the vehicle.

Only 2 options? Sorry my friend but I got more nights in my 2 doors than I got in motels.

I am 6' 2, 175 and I take out the passenger seat and let that engine idle all night long, with Cold AC in AZ in the summer and heat in the winter.

Sometimes the wife wants to come along its going to be scenic and I put the seat back and do the tilt and slide forward with the seat, sleep well.

Back in the OLD days, when Heaters were an option on the Jeep, idle the engine and sleep on the hood nice and toasty and I have done that MANY MANY times out in the outback hunting or exploring...I do keep a US Army Poncho in the Jeep in the event of rain. Warm and dry.

YES, the back seat comes out of my Jeep the day I bring it home, put in a heavy plastic bag and the next time its touched he when it thrown in the back at trade in time...

Kinda kills departure angle though. What ever happened to a tent or bivvy hammock?

OMG that platform in the back is badass. I have been trying to figure out a way to utilize a tent on my 23 Rubi Soft Top - since I cant mount on the bars (and I hate the cage system). Do they actually make something like the first picture in Op?

Not released for the JL yet, but I made a post about this about a year ago https://www.oryx-platform.com/2dr-jk

the advantage of that platform compared to the OP's sketches, is keeping your storage in the back. The biggest problem with sleeping inside the jeep (2door and 4door) is having to unload what you have stored on the tub floor. And put it where? At least with this platform you keep most of your rear storage space. Wondering if it would be too tight to sleep that way under the hardtop, though?

That would absolutely suck if you needed to keep the top on for some reason. Like sleeping in a coffin.

Or on a submarine.
