I didn’t install these steps yet, was planning to this weekend. I’m trying to sell my stock rock rails and have this question - do the power steps utilize the existing hardware at all?

As in, if I sell the rock rails that came on the jeeep, am I able to give the purchaser all the hardware?

Steve
Yes. You do not use any of the existing hardware.

Only stock hardware reused is 2 pinch weld bolts from each side. Neither of which are used on the stock rock rails.

Edit: oops, didnt see the response above

New RSE Power Steps/Rock rails delivered in a week and installed. today. Very stout piece in my opinion. Mounting points not only to the pinch seam but the frame as well. As a rock rail will help with the debris throw back from the front wheels as they extend a good three inches beyond the stock Rubi rails that they replaced ( For sale if anyone in Los Angeles area is interested). Steps powers down and up smoothly and with authority based on the sound. Will take a few days to get used to not standing to close to the door when it's opened.
I would say if you can swing the hefty price tag they seem like a good purchase for my needs. Step drops down a good 12" to provide easier entry and exit.
Most important the wife is happy....

Whew! They’re mounted! Took 4 hours because the washers on the body bolts wouldn’t move up very far to allow for the brackets. Anyone else have this problem?

I wound up sanding the brackets down a bit and hammering the hell out of them to get them into place between the body bolts head and washer.

Torqued everything down to spec and I’ll wire everything up tomorrow.

Btw, for those who have a light kit, where are the lights supposed to be mounted? Inside the housing of the steps itself?

Yeah same issue here with the body mount brackets. I just hammered mine in with a dead blow.

And yeah the light strips go up inside, stick them to the body of the Jeep, the run the wires to the back where the plug is.You don't need to tape or secure the wires down (as long as you position the lights far enough forward that there's not much slack). They won't catch any of the moving parts.

Nice build!!

I really like mine. I had the Amp Steps on my JK and they are nice, but can be damaged by a shopping cart almost.

These will fit with me perfectly.

I wired them to Aux 3 so I can turn them off when doing stupid stuff.

I have been waiting for Amp steps to release theirs for the JL, I do like these but I just cant get my wallet around that price for what they are. Amp steps are 500 dollars cheaper, and yes they are not built for off road like these but man why do they charge so much for these??

They’re super expensive for sure but they’re definitely super durable and like you mentioned, unlike most power steps they’re made to take a beating on rocks.

If that wasn’t just a rhetorical question asking why they’re so expensive and you were looking for an answer I’d say because they’re hand made in USA with really high quality materials. When I got them I said it was a shame that I’d probably never see the motor inside the steps again because it’s beautiful and the components look like they’re cut from a single piece of metal. I have a 1UP bike rack that is the same way. Components are rock solid and all replaceable, made in the USA....and it’s also super expensive haha I guess it’s because indicative of that class of product.

Also, I can’t say there’s really any competition in this area, power steps that are rock sliders.

It’s hard to say if something is worth it, that depends on you and your needs but I definitely don’t have any regrets.

Thank you! I did notice how far they extend out, do you ever rub your calf on the slider getting in and out? my AMP steps on my JK fit nice and flush and I never rubbed my leg getting in and out. Do to the rock slider design and how far they stick out it looks almost like another step? I have called a few company's to see what kind of price I can get on these but I was told they also offer the lower rock guard as well for another 200? not crazy about drilling holes in my new jeep. I had the lower rock guards on my jk and it took me 2 days to get the nutserts in right after re welding 2 miss drilled holes, what a nightmare that was.

Looking at picking up a set of these and have a question for those who've installed them - do the steps come with the skid plate? Or is that an optional extra? Or are they for sale separately as a replacement component, as that's the part that'd get beaten up? Or is that intended to cover additional area and these are still functional rock sliders out of the box - just better with the skid pates?

The steps don't come with the HD skid plate. They are rated to a 5 without them.

They cost extra.

You can replace them,

Better with the plates if you need the extra protection.

That's awesome - I'm really thinking of pulling the trigger, like any minute now lol... but I'm assuming running them to Aux 3 - then setting it to battery - and then they're always on without issue, correct?

You can certainly run them to Aux 3, I considered it, but in the end I decided to mount their provided switch next to the OBD port (and bolted next to it) instead. I wanted a pure setup according to their direction. Additionally, the easiest way to get to the battery direct (as suggested) was through a port in the firewall on the drivers side. Given the provided wiring harness it was easier to run with their switch than the Aux switch.
