Rock Slide Engineering Power Steps Issues

I’ve had my steps on my Jeep for roughly 6 months now and just recently I’ve noticed a lot of play in the rear hinge in the down position. I could stand on the step and it would move front to back.
After turning the power off to the steps I crawled under to inspect the steps and found the pivot stud somehow broke off.
I had a replacement pivot hinge bracket kit sent to me when I first got them installed so and after watching the video on replacing them I found it’s impossible to get any tool up in the gap opening available.
Gonna try again tomorrow and I really hope I don’t have to remove the entire step in order to replace the part.

I had the same problem and the only way I found to make the repair was to remove the step. It sucks.

Hopefully you can find a way to do the repair in situ. I've found RSE tech support to be excellent if you have any questions.
In the event that you end up having to remove the step, I found it to be not as bad as expected. I had a controller fail on my steps under warranty which required removal of the step.

For step removal, I did not remove the body bolts, rather the four bolts in each bracket that interface with the step. Then remove the pinch seam bolts, including the one that requires the step to be deployed to access it. For me this step required both shallow and deep sockets, a short extension and a swivel joint.

Lastly, disconnect the electrical connectors. At that point I was able to pull the step straight outward, with a bit of wiggling at each end. I used a step stool and some spacer blocks to hold up the end that came loose first, completed working the other end loose and set the whole thing on the ground. Easier yet if you have someone to help.

Off and back on didn't take much more than an hour.

if you do need to take them off - you can do something like this -

This setup allows me to take the bolts out (as already described above) and slide the step straight out.

I did this for the install, but also did this for a bolt issue - no trying to line holes up, simply slide the step out or in on blocks at the exact right level.

I took another look at it with a mechanic friend of mine today and found you can replace the bracket without removing the step.
He had to use a 6” 1/4” extension and a spring adapter for the socket.
We were able to get it on the locknut and loosen it.
Unfortunately the repair kit I was sent was for the passenger side so I had to place a warranty claim for the drivers side this evening.
Hopefully I will receive the correct parts within a week or two to correct the issue.
The steps are still useable which is a good thing.
