Got a lightly used 2024 JL 2 Door. The glass had some very very small pits in it when I bought it but otherwise clean of anything major. Today (just 2 weeks after purchase) I noticed this chip which cracked the glass at the very edge top center above the sensors and also left small dent in the roof seam at that point.

Debating if I get the glass replaced ($500 deductible) or just wait for something more major. I thought the gorilla glass would be stronger and was excited when I saw that gorilla logo. So much for that.

I'd have to have such damage replaced, if only because PA's annual safety inspection is very prescriptive, or strict, as it concerns damage to windscreen glass. At best, I could defer glass replacement until just prior to the inspection appt. itself, unless I want the vehicle to intentionally fail. Not for nothing do we have a zero deductible on our policy's Comprehensive line item, which includes chip repair (of which I've had two performed on my JLU to date) and full glass replacement.

How does Ohio treat the matter?

Some people are OCD about things like that. Some states are OCD about things like that. It's up to you and your situation.

Note that our understanding is that Gorilla Glass is intended to keep larger objects from coming through the glass, not to prevent things like this.

Bummer. :( The nick in the frame you'll probably forget about and/or looks like it already blends in with bug guts.

The glass....just get used to Wrangler windshields being disposable. That one hasn't been to war yet, I'd keep it for a while.

I would wait until insurance premium came back up and then add glass replacement for less than $6.00 and then wait a month and then go get a new windshield from safelite under my insurance policy.

Pointing out, for the other readers, that doing what you described is actually insurance fraud.

Gorilla Glass is great for middle-of-the windshield kind chips. I've got a few in the middle that would have cracked on my OEM one. However, I caught a rock right at the edge of the glass, and it cracked immediately. Luckily, it's not in my eyeline, so I am leaving it. I will replace the windshield when I get the "Big One."

the windshield MIGHT still be under warranty. if the chip is over a certain size and what not.... check mopar website. only reason I know is because it happened to me and they replaced it for free.

having said that, im also on my third windshield and still under 15000km, two of the cracks caused in the city under normal conditions. dont bother if its just this.

I am somewhat new to AZ, but I have come to find out most of the insurance companies here in Tucson write your policy for zero deductible for glass damage. I just had the windshield in both our Hummer H2 and the Mini Cooper replaced yesterday. zero cost to me. There are a lot of dirt and gravel roads on the east side of town, as well as lots of new construction. So I guess lots of rocks get picked up and thrown into windshields.

Unless there's a crack right in front of the driver I will roll with it until I get a fix it ticket and have to replace it.
