Raptor Gen3, 2024 - 392 On Order, Red w/ Winch
Sorry, but another FNG suspension question lol!

I'm coming from the Raptor world & started looking at Braptors & 392's in early February due to the numerous warranty issues with my Gen3. Put a deposit on a Braptor dealer order in early February that went up $10.5k in 60 days....so cancelled because the Braptor is not that great! Plus it's underpowered woof woof! So as soon as the prices are published I'll put in an order for a 2024 392.

So the primary mission of this 392 would be a comfortable daily driver & do high speed off roading similar to the Raptor. I understand that the Jeep is a different vehicle, but looking get into a suspension system or lift kit that will come close to the Raptor/Braptor performance? Looks like there are several turn key systems including shocks & will a 2.5" system be enough to run 37's off road?

Also I have been daily driving 35's on the Raptor & off roading on 37" KM3'S. So my goal is to do the same on the 392. So I'll need another set of rims to run the 37's so suggested rims & offset will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Not sure the 392 will be the best for high speed off roading if you’re coming from a Raptor. While it’s a great daily and more comfortable than the JK it may not meet your expectations. I would test drive one prior to ordering.

Thx, I have test driven a used Braptor, a new XR 2.0 turbo?, a used 2021 392, & a used 2023 392 XR. On the city/highway test loop I thought 392 XR was very similar to the Raptor.

One of your biggest hurtles with the Jeep for high speed off-roading is the solid front axel. It's not necessary conducive to that type of travel. I have limited knowledge on what options there would be, but I would assume you would have to go with more of a Ultra4 type build. or atleast that methodology.

Like others have said, Jeeps are not made for high speed off-roading. If you are dead set on a Jeep, might want to consider going with a Gladiator, as the longer wheelbase will help. Although no 392 option.

You can probably get the suspension set up in the 392 to float pretty nice while bombing through the desert, but at its best I bet it still won't be as good as the raptor (F150 or Bronco) in this regard. The SFA will always toss you around a little more.

Having said that, I bet there is a suspension setup you could find meant for it. And id be prepared to pay for absolute top of the line resivior shocks.

Also, just my personal observation, when someone posts a pic of a front axle busted in half like a tooth pick, the background setting is usually the dunes... so some axle strengthening would also probably be in order.

When many say “high speed off roading” it is high speed to them, not necessarily really high speed.

if you mean 50+mph off road then the 392 is not the right vehicle. You will destroy it very quickly and be out a lot of money. You will break the front axle on your first outing. A Jeep is a very poor “pre-runner” type vehicle. And furthermore a 392 is even a worse one with the heavy engine over a D44 with an empty FAD box. Stick with your raptor or braptor.

LiteBrite has a very fast Demon JL setup. You might mimic what they have done if you have the funds.

Is there any advantage to having V8 off road with Wrangler. I always thought it was more about the power on road. I can kind of see the desert running off road vehicle setups, 392 doesn't seem built for that for sure. 3.6, 2.0 and 3.0 seem just as capable for the Wrangler off road niche.

To me the 392 has more cool-factor than off road advantage.

I love my 392 for on and off-road purposes. With this said, I refuse to travel over 15 MAYBE 20 on a dirt road unless its very, very smooth. It will toss you and the passengers around. Even with a lift, nice shocks, 37's aired down on beadlocks, the SFA will leave you wanting. The Raptors are designed from the ground up for high speed off-road. The absolute closest to perform off-road would be the JT Mojave. I still would be hesitant to do anything high speed. When I was younger, I built a Toyata prerunner for the deserts in western CO. The IFS makes all the difference even with an economic set up. To do something like this on a Wrangler would damn near double the cost of the whole thing especially with the weight of the 392 engine. However, there is no greater thrill than roasting some kid in a subi with a coffee-can muffler....but off-road, stick to crawling in a Jeep.

If you are going faster than a crawl off pavement, you'll want to stay in the ford camp.

Actually they broke the front axle shaft on a recent video

Stick with the braptor or even better a raptor if high speed is your goal. The 392 will cost exponentially more to get you to almost braptor level for high speed off road as the SFA is not the right tool for that job.

Silly stuff really - changing from 35's to 37's to go off road. Just run 37's. Oh, and trying to make a Jeep into a Raptor, that's really silly (baller $$$ required).

I like watching people pour $$$ into toys - post up some pics!

You might want to look for a TRX if you want to have comfort and high speed. If I were to daily drive my Jeep on the highway, I would sell it the same day. Its great under 60mph on the streets but sucks on the highway. On the other hand , TRX is super comfortable all around, much better than Raptors in my opinion.

Rides better on 35's, keeps the 37's in newer condition, better wet pavement traction, quieter, etc. But thanks!
