The model I’m looking at comes with LEDs upfront just not taillights. So I guess I could save a couple Benjamin’s by not getting the whole safety package, but might be an option worth having at resale time if that day ever came down the road.
Just FYI If you get the safety package you automatically get LED taillights.

Also if you get the anti-spin LSD you automatically get the rear Dana 44 axle.

I highly recommend getting all the LED options from factory because the halogens are just straight up terrible. I didn’t for mine and I spent a lot more time and money to convert mine to working LED afterwards. Remember a programmer itself cost around $300, and also due to factory LED headlights using a different harness than halogen a lot of people were having issues getting the Halo to work.

Should I consider an extended warranty?
If yes, does it have to be purchased now or can it be added later?
If yes, do I have to buy an extended warranty through mopar or are there third party offerings? Recommendations?

The JLU Willys has LED headlamps and foglamps. Can the LED taillights and fender markers be added later at a resonable price, or is it better to just by the safety package for $995 that includes them?

I dont think I want to worry about the Alpine system as its not super common to see in the Willys trim on the lots.
Will E-Torque be more of a problem when the jeep isnt a daily driver?

Because of the thought and effort you put into your post, I’m going to respond to you in a way that I feel will be helpful. I’ve shortened your post in the quote thread so that you’ll find my answers in the same order that you asked. If you need me to elaborate more, just ask.

That being said, here you go:

Your vehicle purchase is going to be close to $50k. Considering a warranty shouldn’t have even been a question or a second thought in your mind. GET IT.

Anyone who tells you otherwise, if worse comes to worse, are they going to be by your side when you need monetary support for things that would have been covered under the extended warranty? Probably not.

Buy the FACTORY warranty and buy it at the time of purchase. Make sure that before you take possession of your vehicle, that it has the warranty. Worth every penny as the vehicle ages and gets more mileage.

Regarding the LED package, worth it for both front and rear. Again, get it from the factory: worth the money!

Regarding the sound package, unless you’re an audiosnob and or have some great carFi places, get the upgraded package from the factory. The more of the major stuff that you can get from the factory, the less time you spend tooling the Jeep and the more time you spend with your family making wonderful memories. Also grinning from ear to ear.

(Unlike your neighbor who’s suffering PTSD from taking his Ford out repeatedly, getting stranded constantly and then having to call the tow truck driver. They’re on a first name basis now.)

Lastly, the engine question. Jeep didn’t make it easy this time around: all the engine choices are really great! I went with the 3.6L and was surprised at how smooth and responsive it was with the 8Speed Transmission.

I’ve had two four banger engines in my Jeeps (YJ and TJ) and didn’t want a smaller, turbocharged power plant this time around.

However, the 2.0L is still a REALLY good choice and you won’t be disappointed. Most members love theirs.

Those are just my two cents. I hope you’ll consider all my points and act appropriately on my advice. Keep us posted!!!

BTW, the rear LEDs house the blind spot monitor sensors. That’s why the Safety Group includes LED taillights.

BTW does this mean if i DID NOT get the safety group but DO have the LEDs, I can flash on the blind spot?!

OP, personelly, I think that you should buy all the options that you want from the factory. Adding them later may or may not be possible and may or may not be easy. Buy from factory.

extended warranty. I typically never buy them. But, this is a Jeep from FCA. Quality and long-term reliability with FCA engineering is not something that they seem too concerned about. If this was a Toyota TRD, I would say “don’t buy the extended warranty”. But this is a Jeep from FCA, so I bought it. My ESS system alone may fail enough down the road to pay for the warranty.

Good information and Thank you. The package I'm looking at will already include LED Headlight and Foglamps, just not tail lamps. So basically I just have to decide if its worth paying for now or not, which seems lit it might be.

The Willys package also already includes the Limited Slip diff as well I believe, but now I need to verify. I know its not an option on the online builder.

Thanks for taking time to assist. I appreciate your opinions. I will plan to order most options from factory if they cant find what I want.

I DO know that I want the 3.6 though.

I will be doing some more reserach on the warranties. I do agree its a large investment buying a new car. We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I always swore I'd never buy another Jeep due to some of the issues we've had, but my wife still loves it and I have a love/hate relationship with it. I just cant put my desire to own a wrangler for over 20 years aside any longer :)

Ah, I didnt even think about the park assist sensors being in there. I guess that makes since, being people often want to change out the bumpers.

Thanks for the input. I do agree about just ordering most of the options. I'll likely have to order to get all of the options and color I want. I've searched the online auto finder sites and find maybe just a couple that have all the options, but usually they are all missing just one or two. Usually its the Tow package, followed by the safety group and rarely see the alpine system.

As for Warranty, I hear what you're saying. This has been one of my biggest turn offs when it comes to buying a NEW Jeep Wrangler. Reading about people having their car die in an intersection or driving down the freeway is a bit alarming. I'm not worried about it IF I was driving but WHEN my wife might choose to drive it. It just seems like an issues that you should never have to worry about when buying a new car. Anyway, I know there are thousands of owners that may never have issues and we usually only hear about those that do. I'll keep looking into my options.

If this isn't a daily drive how many miles are you going to put on it a year?

I am only asking because if I was going to put 6,000 miles/year on a Jeep (for example) then the basic warranty would last 6 years. The powertrain warranty even longer. So you are paying up front or financing a significant amount of money for something you will use 6 years from now.

I wouldn't do that personally.

There are some things that once they bite you, you have to pursue them. Owning a Wrangler is one of those.

As part of your research, search Mopar Vehicle Protection - these are some of the best factory backed warranties that FCA offers. It’s not third party, it’s an extended warranty from Mopar to provide your new vehicle with genuine factory replacement parts if you ever need them.

I’ve owned several Jeeps and they’ve come an incredibly long way over the last 20 years. People will always find something to complain about and those who actually take the time to post represent a very diverse, small group of owners and potential owners.

There’s something very special about the process you’re about to begin so make it a good and fun one.

I cant say for sure. I have a company daily driver so historically, my 2nd vehicle only gets 4-6K miles a year. If my wife chooses to drive it sometimes that could fluctuate. I will probably hit the 3 yr and 5 yr limit before the mileage limit. If it stays reliable we will plan to keep it around for a long time.

It had more to do with the fender flares; the fenders kept triggering the BSM. Jeep had to position the sensors as far out as it possibly could, hence the outer edge of the tail light housings.
