Finally got my Rubicon a couple of days ago and traded in my 20 JL Sport.
I ordered on 9/16... received 12/5. It's crazy going from a 2 door Sport to a 4dr Rubicon, it's like a completely different car...and I love it.

I do have some questions for you guys though;

-Both are/were 6spd Manual with the 3.6 pentastar. I was getting 17-18 city and 21-22 highway with the sport. This Rubi is 13-14 city, and highway is substantially lower too, but I don't have an exact number yet as Ive only had it for a couple of days. Is this normal? I know the tires are slightly bigger, the gear ratio is higher and the curb weight is heavier, but I just want to make sure that's normal.

-One of the options I got was the cold air intake, and while I did get the intake, they didn't do the cutout in the hood, which is pretty disappointing...and the dealer insists that 'my hood doesn't need it'. Figured I'd ask before raising hell.

Ya gas mileage is gonna take a hit due to the gearing. Plus need some time to break everything in. I use 87 to fill up but have used 89 a couple times and mileage has come up some. I live in the country and i get 17.5 all the way up to 18.5. There is a sweet spot for speed to increase mileage. I know not what you wanted to hear but it's a Rubicon.

I just drove my brand new rubicon home last weekend. 900 miles of 70-80 mph, averaged 18.1 .. Maybe I got a good one ?

I varied the speed constantly the first 500 miles, maybe that helped ?

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I have a 2D Rubicon and have gotten 18.7 mpg in mixed driving, including a lot of 4-hi off road, over the last 9k miles.

I'll echo above, that mpg will usually increase during the first few thousand miles as everything wears into place. It definitely won't get what a 2 door on smaller tires got, but it should go up.

Congrats on the new Rubi!

Congratulations on the new ride, is that a 21 or a 22 and if so which gears did you get 4.10 or 4.88's as one will definitely lower you mpg.

Your Jeep should get better mileage after it breaks.

Regards,
Jim

Congrats on the new Jeep. As far as the optional cold air intake, sounds like you didnt get what you paid for. The hood opening is part of the kit.

So...after watching a few threads on MPG a few weeks ago, I decided to test things out my self. We did a round trip to Sis-in-Laws house near Houston, Texas which is about 190 miles total. I put 19.8 gallons of 93 octane in the aerodynamic box of animal crackers, reset the trip and econ meters and headed out. Traveling posted speed limits on Interstate 45 and heading down to sea level from about 500ft. above I got 23.9 MPG. Reset the meters a few hours later and came home back up to 500ft and got 23.1 I did not do a hand calc. the DIC also usually shows between 17 to 18.5 around town almost always all other times and our town is very hilly so...once you get past the break in period...you should start to see things improve a bit, my JLUR currently has about 3400 miles on it.

Bro!! You have WAY too much time on hand!! Kudos on the meticulous explanation - I am impressed. Do you used to work in American Test Kitchen? Cause they go through all the trouble and do the same thing like you did in determining what is the right moisture in making the ultimate brownies!

Nah...time is something one has plenty of when retired and why not test things out when the trip is already planned? And, as a retired federal narcotics agent, I'm used to measuring things...usually between grams, metric tons and years is prison though...

Haha thanks guys - I figured the MPGs would improve once things are broken in. It's a '21, so the 4.88 gear ratio wasn't an option when I ordered. Probably for the better because I don't intend on getting larger tires, and I think that the 4.10 is a pretty sweet spot.

Anyways, I'm off to raise hell over the intake then 😂

When my 2021 4dr rubicon 2.0t was new and stock I was averaging 19-20mpg city/highway. Now after lifting it 3.5” and adding heavy 37” tires I’m averaging 14-15.5mpg lol.

Haha I'd imagine so. There's a million good reasons to buy a Wrangler, but 'efficiency' isn't one of them.
It's kinda like the costs of owning a boat without actually having...a boat.
