Hi everyone,

Ordered a Willys sport with xrecon package!! This is my first jeep and first post here :)

I was interested in 4XE Rubicon and test drove it and loved it. But didn't make much sense for me with the MPG on highways and my current charging situation (live in an apartment complex with no charging station) Then came across this amazing package which I thought would be a good trade off for a off road capable non Rubicon rig and save some money! What do you all think about it? I would love to take it to trails but no prior experience so wouldn't be doing anything crazy...

I am assuming 2.0 currently doesn't have electric motor on it and it's been proven for a while on jeep. I loved when I test drove and went with that option!
I would want not to modify it soon but already started looking in to tunes and exhausts :D

Also, what kind of warranty additions do you all suggest when I buy?

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
They sell warranties because they make money on them. That means, on average, they cost you more than they are worth.

Here's a pic of my Willys Xtreme Recon Sport.

I also went with the 2.0t and it's definitely the option to go with. I'm averaging about 19mpg driving on the 101 in Central CA. I commute 80+ miles a day on 87 Octane and there is a good amount of hills. The power is great with the 4.56 gears and the 2.0t. I drove an eTorque V6 and it didn't feel as responsive. I also had a Gladiator and Wrangler with a V6. I feel that the 4cyl is a big improvement. No regrets.

I have the 2.0 on my Sahara Altitude and love it. Plenty of power and really zippy on the highway. I average 19-22 MPG running on premium.

My advice is to setup a spreadsheet to track your planned mods. Take it out wheeling at least 2-3 times before you buy anything (especially with the Xtreme Recon package). You're not really going to need any mods from a capability standpoint, tbh - your mods are going to be more about comfort/convenience.

My recommendations as a starting point:
  • Recovery Kit; straps, shackles, etc
  • Winch
  • Interior "conveniences" - misc. storage things, seat covers, ArmorLite, etc
  • Air Compressor (portable or onboard)
  • Radio
But definitely go to some meetups, hit the trails, etc - you'll see what others have/actually use, and get an idea of things that you wish you had, and things that are unimportant to you.

Really, the big annoying difference is the manual locks and windows. While power locks are standard on Rubicons / 4XE. You have to get the Willys not Willys Sport. I wanted to get the Willys, but the one they had on the lot was about 8k more. It also had the tech and led upgrade. I only care for the locks, but it wasn't worth 8k to me. Jeep really needs to get with the times and offer power locks / windows with the base models. It's ridiculous in 22'/23'.

Oh I hear you. They should have it with all models.. or at least as an option.. this seems like some kind of punishment lol. I didn't want to spend all that extra for power locks and windows either.

I will keep a track of mods and thank you for the list!! Plan is to go for few meetups and light trails and see what others do/use and go from there!

Willys sport xr. Absolutely my favorite of all seven wranglers and cj’s ive owned. No need for more power on the interstate here in colorado. Getting 22 to 25 mpg on overage, depending on altitude

I'm glad you posted this because this is exactly what I'm looking at ordering. Hydro blue and all.
I'm also going with the 2.0L turbo. I drove my friend's a week or so ago and it feels like it has more pep than my 3.6L.
I want the upgraded Alpine speakers but that is only available with the Willy's and not the Sport but I don't think it's worth it to me to pay an extra 5 grand for the willys to be allowed to pay another 1,200 for the speakers. I can do a monster sound system upgrade for 7 grand. I don't really mind the manual door locks and windows. I've gotten used to it again on my '18 sport that I have now. Other than that, I believe everything else is the same, correct?

Yeah, I believe everything else is the same. It's a shame. I think they should eliminate the Sport. Make the locks and windows standard. Open up the accessory packages separately.

The windows don't really bother me, but it would be nice if it was included. The door locks ARE annoying. I'm 5'10 and I have to reach my arm over while I'm standing outside to open the back doors. It's less of an issue with the much lower base Sport. With the XR lift and 35s. The back door will be difficult to reach with shorter drivers. They're not the easiest to unlock either. If I had to unlock the back doors every day and I was shorter. The power locks would be an absolute must have. At the most basic level of utility. Jeep should have some common sense and at least have power locks on every vehicle. It is not a small car. Some people actually make fun of it. Always negative comments for the locks and windows. For being a 2022, it gives Jeep a bad reputation. "No power locks for 50k!" type of reputation. ?

I kind of felt the same way when I looked at my '18 and found out that it had manual windows, locks, and mirrors. I got used to it all and besides, it reminds me of when I was a kid and all cars had manual locks and windows :CWL:. Other than the power stuff, I think I can live without the factory extras that account for the 5 grand difference between the Willy's Sport and the Willy's. The drivetrain, axles and everything else is the same. I can work with anything else.

You leave my manual locks and windows alone. I had to special order to even find one in this config. Besides, there's 7 other trims with power standard. ? (I would want power on a 4 door though, I get where you're coming from)

To OP, you're gonna love it. If the XR package was available on the 2 door I would have went for it 100%. Sarge was my 2nd color choice too, only very slightly edged out by Hydro once I saw it in person. Enjoy and see you on the trails!

If possible I would ask your dealer about deleting the easy to add Mopar items such as the tub liner and windshield tie downs. Some of those small items can hold up an order, at least that is the way it was in 2022. If cost is not a problem, the LED light package is awesome.
