Oil usage....

3.6 oil usage.2021 3.6 with 1,950 miles.First oil change 1000 miles 0W20 Pennzoil Platinum zero usage.Checked at 1,950 and one half a quart down.Not really worried but watching.I will be concerned if if it keeps this up.Any input as to similar results.

2021 3.6 with 15k miles. Haven't noticed any noticable loss of oil with 5500-6500 mile oil change intervals.

Just checking, but are you sure it was on level ground (I figure you did, just checking)? Also had you checked it good after the first change? Maybe it started a little low? Mine occasionally looks a little low if I don't let it sit long enough before checking or park it in the direction of the slight incline in my driveway.

I have two 3.6, and my Grandson also had a leased one. Two are the original 3.6 versions, and one Is the PUG updated. Non of them show that any noticeable oil has been needed to be added.
So, how are you checking your oil level? Did you check it after the oil was changed?

If you go to my dealer for an oil change they will overfill. You'll be right on the money after 1,000 miles ?‍

I have a catch can on my 2019 with a 3.6L. Collectively, I empty about 1/2 quart in between 7500mile interval oil changes.

Every time it has been checked it was in the garage.I did misstate the mileage on the first change ...it was at a one thousand miles not 500.It is possible the container was a little short.I wish I had checked it before we made about a 140 mile trip which the speed limit was 75 mph. That is the longest and hardest it has been run to date.

I check it both hot and cold.When I changed it the first time at 1000,I checked it cold.At 1000 before the change it was full on the stick.The only difference was the first 1000 miles were short trip in town and the last oil check was higher speeds and longer durations.

Lol...Not me...A relative just took his in for an oil change, and they changed the oil but left the old filter in.

Stick only.I'm going to put a catch can on this one if it turns out it's going to send a half a quart per 1000 miles down the intake.I hope it quits with more miles.I'm going to stick to around town for the next 1000 and see what happens.Will a catch can void the warranty?

That question was aimed at 19 JLUR Bright Whit3 who said he got a quart of oil from his can. Catch cans will not void a warranty unless you never maintain it and it sucks all that crap up and causes an issue. However, historically, catch cans do not "catch" as much as a lot of people think. I have ran them myself in the past on Camaros and even my first Silverado. I poured crap out of them all the time. But, if you check the stick, usually you arent missing as much as you pour out. None of my vehicles have really ever used a drop of oil but yet the can "caught" a lot. A lot of times its just condensation from it heating and cooling in the engine bay instead of it being a lot of oil. If it is actually catch a quart every 1K miles, there is a problem.

No noticeable oil burn in my 2019 3.6. I do notice the amount showing on the dipstick can vary wildly if you don't follow a consistent method of checking it, and the owner's manual goes over this.

Warm the engine up fully. Park on completely level ground and turn it off. Wait 5 minutes. Then check the oil. If you check it right away it'll likely read low, and if you check it with the engine cold or sitting off for a while longer than 5 minutes it'll likely read high. I would only compare measurements taken using this method, the level can vary enough with temperature and time to give you a completely false idea of what's in the engine, as the engine holds a bit of oil in the upper areas that takes time to return to the pan.

I've gotten good at estimating it in a hurry if I check it quickly while refueling. I expect it to read a bit lower when checked without waiting 5 mins, but still register at the bottom of the stick.

I had to add 1/2 a quart or 16 ounces. I understand you are going to lose some oil during the combustion process, but I don't want to put as much as I fear is going down the intake.I have run external breather systems on a few Harleys with good results. I'm hoping this situation stops with more miles.Hoping to see an improvement with a thousand more miles.

FWIW, my '21 3.6 has just over 24k on it now, and hasn't used/burned any oil between oil changes.
