I bought my 2021 sport 3 weeks ago. It's a base model so absolutely no bells and whistles, 6 speed manual transmission. It does have a push button start. I just found out it has a clutch recall.
The problem..... when shuting the car off. Push the button to off . I put the car in neutral, set the parking break, open the door to exit the car. It starts up. This has happened about 6 times in the last 3 weeks. Any suggestions?

When I had a manual I would always put the car in neutral before shutting down the ignition.

transmission to neutral
parking brake set
push the start/off button

As for the clutch recall, we have a mega thread on here with all the details, good, bad and ugly. The short of it is, a new clutch just like the one you have now is installed but with more software nannies that you may or may not have issues with if you modify your Jeep further down the road.

I am personally not letting a dealer touch my Jeep for the recall and will install an aftermarket clutch when the time comes. If your factory clutch slips !AT ALL! DO NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT!
It's time for a new clutch. Unlike old clutches that would slip and slip until it didn't work anymore these units build up heat that causes them to fracture and could burn your vehicle down. If it slips at all, it's time to park until resolved.

Interesting that it would start without the clutch fully depressed and/or service brakes applied.

You may have discovered why it was being sold. Time to pursue a warranty claim if it has any remaining factory warranty...

That’s what happens with mine if ESS is enabled and shut off that way; I open the door, it immediately starts to run again. I know it’s a dumb question, but was the engine stopped due to ESS before you hit the start/off button?

But leaving it in 2nd or 3rd might even be better. Those gears have much less gear reduction, i.e. harder to turnnover (I think?)
🤔
The lower the gear, the greater the resistance. Thus the suggestion to use 1st gear as a de facto supplement to the vehicle's parking brake, should the latter fail or not be used in the first place.

That's why, for example, we in the riding community tend to recommend 2nd or, oftentimes, 3rd gear when push-starting a bike with a weakened battery. There's just enough mechanical resistance for the engine to turn over at the desired speed when the clutch is let out (i.e., engaged), but not so much that the person(s) pushing the bike don't have a fair chance to get enough ground speed when doing so.

Neutral? You don't leave it parked like that, right?
I almost always leave my manual transmission in neutral with the brake set. But I park in a level garage, and the park lot is level at work. Now if I am parked on any kind of slope, I will leave it in gear with the brake on. I've been driving manuals for 40 years and have always done it this way, and never had any issues. But parking in Ohio is different from parking in Colorado...

Yeah, I'm not going to fundamentally change how I deal with the transmission depending on the parking situation. When parking a manual it's in first. No need to try to figure out if it's required based on the situation, especially when there's zero benefit to leaving it in neutral.

Or reverse depending on the way you’re facing. I believe owners manuals even address this. I think it’s first if facing up and reverse if facing down. I could have that backwards but too lazy to Google it.

50 years of experience here. I've always parked in Reverse, and almost always without parking brake (it's actually an Emergency Brake - not park brake). The E-Brake of old (drum brakes) often didn't hold well forward, and hardly at all backwards. Yet, if set when wet, it could freeze overnight, leaving the rear wheels locked tight the next morning. So, Reverse and no E-brake for me.

Been driving manuals for 48 years, always park them in 1st or reverse. But, that’s not the OP’s issue. OP’s Jeep is starting itself after placing ignition in “off”, then exiting and Jeep starts. Shouldn’t start no matter what gear it’s in, if ignition is off. Really weird. The thing is possessed.

OP - make sure ignition is truly off, not just engine off with ESS and ignition on. When exiting, watch the ignition indicator light and see if it stays off or goes to “on“ when it starts itself. Radio should turn off if ignition is in off. Do you have a remote start? If remote start is in your pocket, maybe you are accidentally hitting the start button. Try holding FOB in your hand to eliminate this.
