Have you tried to take the key fob and use it to push the button?

Press the brake harder. It's happened toe once. I just got done installing the Quadratec brake light ring and was checking it out by tapping my brake when the Jeep was parked. Go to start it up to move it back in the garage and it wouldn't start. Got pissed since it was brand new and then pressed harder on the brake and it fired right up.

I've been surprised by the ACC mode 1-2 times myself. As suggested, give the brake pedal a proper push.

last week I got that message and I put a new battery in the fob
I see this quite often at work. Thus now we carry a selection of coin batteries and change them out. My VW warns you for about a month but that thing goes through batteries about every 10-12 months. Top it off, you have to put the dead key fob next to the steering column (where the ignition key would go on an older version) then reach over on the center console to push the button. Not the greatest design.

If you think that's bad, older Mazdas have a convoluted method. They kept the ignition tumbler but have a plastic insert in it. You rotate that. If the fob goes dead, you can't turn the ignition. Thus you have to make sure you have some sort of fingernail, to pull out the key, then pull off that cover and insert the key. You'd be amazed at the amount of them that get towed in because the owner didn't know that.

I'm wondering if it's a leak for the brake booster. That would make it harder to start to where you have to push down real hard. For example I've had Jeeps apart where I've had to disconnect the brake booster. Thus on startup, I had to push real hard to get it to start.

Also, I'd look into the switch that operates the starter system (which is usually intregated into the brake light switch). Just about every car has a self adjusting one from the factory and if they get out of adjustment, then the brake lights (and keyless system) either are on too easy or takes lots of brake pedal travel.
