When I use the USB in my armrest for Carplay, it stops working after 10 minutes (discounts from carplay). I have used 3 separate cables and all behave the same. When I use the USB in the dash, I have no issues. I do not want to use the USB in the Dash because I do not like the cable hanging in front of everything. I wish they would have put a USB someplace better so I can use my Offroam phone mount without seeing a wire dangling (this will be resolved if I can get my armrest USB fixed)

If it is a carplay issue, why don't i have the issue when connecting it to the dash USB?
This has been bothering me since mine was new. TONS of other people having this problem.

Jeep blames Apple for new software not being compatible, and Apple blames Jeep/Uconnect. I have yet to find a solution, but that’s what the dealer told me.

And yes, I know, you can’t always trust the dealer, but it seems to make sense as older iOS devices don’t seem to have the issue.

I just picked up my Jeep a few days ago.. the center console USB didn't work at all for Android Auto so I assumed it was just a charge-only port.

Is seeing a wire dangling really that big of a deal in a wrangler? You've got exposed bolts, hinges, brackets, etc everywhere. It's not a sleek futuristic minimalist design ethos.

It’s intermittent with the center console but works without any issue if the dash USBs. I gave up wondering why. I doubt it is something that will be fixed.

@Turaven

All the JL's that I have dealt with over the last 4 yrs. (a bunch) have a USB #2 port in the center console that is both power and data. Perhaps not the same with the 2023's..
I'll check a 2032 one of these days.

For those that want to know which of their USB ports are both data and power, go to "Media", in UConnect and only those ports with data capability will be listed in UConnect.

The center console USB port is known to be flaky AF. Some people have no issues, others have problems. I use the CarLinkIt Wireless adapter, and it wold disconnect constantly in the center console. Added a USBA > C adapter from Amazon that others were using and it works fine now.

I don't think it helps with the actual phone being plugged in there though.

My theory is that the wiring to center console is too thin and loses too much current running back there and causes issues. Just my SWAG.

I have no issues using armrest port for carplay. I have 2022 JLU. I plug in, then drop phone upside down in center key holder slot. Works great.

I meant common issue with CarPlay working from that usb. The dash usb gets a bit higher voltage and better connectivity I believe.

A neighbor, who has plenty of play money, threw in a $3k radio upgrade. I will get the name and model and post it. This thing is amazing and basically a 10" computer that allows all the Apps to work normally and iPhone functions(Android also). I best for me was just seeing Gaia GPS and On X Offroad function completely, aka no safety restrictions. Of course you can also play Youtube, Netflix, HBO, any all streaming. Uber convenient...however $3k is murder for a radio when I consider other Overland options. To just be picky the thing is 10" vs my 8.4 and the frame in the dash looks 100% aftermarket. Great fit and finish just looks out of place. Anyone know the name off the top, before I go fetch it?

Doesn't the Offroam mount to the vent? Won't you still have a wire dangling if you run a cable from the center console?

I have the 67 designs mount and run my charger from the port on the dash. Not a huge fan of cords either so I bought a 2ft cord, its red so it matches the dash

It does mount to the vent, the plan was the run out the bottom of the armrest storage area, under the plastic area of the cup holder, and then up the phone. My next option will be to move the offroam to the same side as the media USB and then to the phone. I guess I need to look for a 45 degree USB so the dang media port door isn't wide open.

maybe something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZSZQNW...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

I like the insane audio option for the better IP rating over the stinger option. That’s what I’ll be going with eventually.
