The bumper is a Rock Hard aluminum full width bumper. Made out of 1/4 inch aluminum, very strong, but only weighs about 35 pounds. It is one piece including bumper, winch plate, and skid plate.

Thanks for the quick response. I've looked at those. I'm hoping to keep my wallet closed until next spring. Don't need the bumper quite yet.
Thanks again. Enjoy!

Edit: Forgot to ask, your LED fogs fit right in?

12,000 lb winches usually use a much thicker cable, therefore a shorter line to fit on the windlass. If you think you will have to run longer runs for winchings...go with a smaller winch with a longer line or be prepared to carry extra cables

With all the varieties I can't speak to specifics, just where to get them.

Medieval Times has a large selection to choose from:

Serious question: how often do you find yourself needing more than 80' of winch line? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm actually curious. On my old JK, I had 100' of line, but rarely used even half of that. I was considering a 12k winch for my incoming JLUR, but the synthetic line is down to 80' vs. 100' on the 10k. I'd prefer to go with the higher capacity winch just to have a higher safety margin when dealing with oddball situations, but I'm curious how much the loss of 20' of line would actually impact someone who offroads more frequently than I have in the past. I'm planning to get out more often than I used to, so hearing from people who winch often would be super valuable. Thanks!

I have a JLUR without the Steel Bumper Group, is there a way to mount a winch to the stock bumper? I really like the stock and would love to save money by not buying a new bumper to fit a winch. Thoughts???

There is no real way to use stock plastic bumper with a winch.

You will either need to buy a new aftermarket bumper with a winch plate built in or buy a steel stock Mopar bumper and buy a winch plate separate.

For cost savings I would consider buying an after market bumper with a winch plate. Just beware the cheap bumpers on ebay and amazon are made really cheaply and often rust pretty easily.

If you buy a winch plate, you could mount the winch. Then you may have to do some small amount of cutting to get the plastic bumper back in place.

It can be done. :fist bump:

Rock Hard 4x4 makes a winch mount for a jk plastic bumper. Might check with them to see if they have one for the jl yet..

Thanks for the info. If I’m gonna have fork our cash for a front bumper than I’ll be sure to spend on a quality one. Thank you!
