Between my '20 JLR similarly equipped as my 392, the JLR is hands down the better off road jeep for my purposes. The JLR is quick, agile, and can turn around on trails impossible or clumsy for the 392. Driving the 392 is like an event, the JLR is quiet and you can sneak in and out of the neighborhood. The JLR is a natural for daily around town errands, it's a handy dandy for store parking lots and short parking places. I'm glad I decided to keep the JLR. These two jeeps are as different as night and day and that fact gets lost among the brochures, pictures, videos and specs on the internet.

@entropy Unless you are banking on inertia, ammirite? But I guess that still doesn't change the JLR being the most capable I guess.

Interesting the 392 was an option but not the diesel or 4xe. Banging around on boulders out west this summer had me worried about the exposed oil pan on the 2.0T, then I realized I could drive out with no oil by running only the electrics on the 4xe.

Then I started thinking about water crossings. The Battery and electronics are sealed well in this system too. Theoretically, you could cut the engine and cross deeper than suggested water in electric mode without the need for a snorkel. Of course, you'd need to drain the airbox before restarting the engine and it's not designed for this, but with a little extra engineering, Jeep could exploit the fact that there's two powerplants in the 4xe.
Because I didn't want to make this thread about the specific engines. It's more about the body, length ,size and ground clearance ect..The only reason why the 392 is a separate option is because it's a totally different beast. Especially in the weight department. And it sits much higher then the other stock Rubicons. Plus it's the hype right now. So I wanted to see if people chose it just because of the "biggest and badest" hype alone. That's the only reason why. The 4xe has the same suspension and height of the other Rubicons.

Just curious to see what most people view as the best Rubicon Off-road platform.

The 2 door with the Shorter wheel base.

The 4 door with the longer wheel base.

The 392 4 door with the longer wheel base and v8 engine.

Just curious to hear people's opinions.
All depends on the skill level of the person driving it. An experienced driver can make an obstacle(s) look easy with a Sport that a novice driver would find extremely difficult in a Rubicon.

Capable for what? The 2-door would not work well for my offroading because I couldn't sleep in the back. The 392 would work better in traffic around town. Tackling offroad obstacles I think the 2-door would have an advantage but I've also seen obstacles on some of the trails around Moab where longer wheelbase worked better.

'Best Rubi' means different things to everyone. I'll choose the traditional one; ease of conquering the Rubicon or similar trails:

The extra power of the 392 doesn't help in a 4-low, 5 mph situation. The extra front weight and longer wheelbase don't help either. The room of the extra 2 doors is offset by the limited range.

IMHO, the 2 door Rubi (3.6 auto) is the most capable Rubi. Very interested in reading other opinions.

4 door units and Gladiators are fun to watch on the East Coast. They almost always come off the trails with body damage. ?

I'm still going to say those are bad drivers. The PNW has tight trails with lots of big trees. The 2 door is still the same width as the 4 door. The dusy erishim trail is the only place I've ever had the top rub a tree or 2 (rub marks, no body damage) and that was due to boulders causing enough lean when traveling between trees to make it unavoidable. I'm not sure a 2 door would have faired any better there. I'll take some rubbing on trees and scrapes to skids and rock sliders over turtling off a steep obstacle and causing major damage to my Jeep any day, but maybe that's just me?

I would add that the 2021 Rubicons of any configuration (with auto trans) have a few advantages over the previous years, due to the Off Road+ feature in H or L, which attenuates the accelerator and shift points, and also allows you to run in 4H at high speeds with rear locker engaged (you also have to long-press the traction control button to totally disable it). Also, the off-road cruise control function may have some advantages in certain situations as well.

Or just run the tazer on any Rubicon. Sway bar disco at any speed, in any gear. Same with front and rear Lockers. I've never felt a need for off road cruise control, but it is supposed to work better than the Bronco's version. It would be nice if Jeep would allow independent use of the front and rear Lockers, but at least the aftermarket has us covered.
