Mickey Thompson Sidewall Issues

I was on Elephant Hill just last Wednesday. My rig, along with 3 others, were all using MT Baja Boss M/Ts or A/Ts. We didn't have any problems with tires the whole week. (We did Elephant Hill, Metal Masher, Moab Rim, Hells Revenge, and a few other easy trails.)

My Baja Boss ATs have quite a few cuts from wheeling, but they don't seem to have had any effect, nor have any of the chunks fallen out - which reminds me I need to get some tire glue to re-bind those... I just figure it's part of wheeling?

Yeah, rebinding is important. I wouldn’t have had the flat on elephant hill if I’d taken the time to rebind it.

I’ve got the MT’s, they’ve been rock solid.

I’ve wheeled:7-mile rim, Poison Spider (multiple times), Golden Spike, Gold Bar Rim, Moab Rim, Hells Revenge, Top of the world (multiple times), fins and things, Elephant Hill, Steel Bender, and Porcupine Rim on them so far, as well as several trails in the Salt Lake City area, and they have some scuffs in the side walls but no cuts or structural damage.

Im even thinking the c rated sidewalls didnt help either. With the stiffer D (giggity) of the BBAT and the extra height I hope the few issues I had fix themselves.

It's possible for the sidewalls to be reasonably tough but not the toughest out there. The Cooper STT Pro, for example, has tougher sidewalls. @wibornz has written some excellent tire reviews over tens of thousands of miles. I believe his STT Pros never had gashes in the sidewalls while the Baja Boss ATs did, but the gashes didn't cause any flats, and he preferred the ride quality of the Baja Boss such that he was willing to accept that tradeoff.

I have a Discount Tire/Americas Tire warranty. Well worth it in my opinion.

Its essentially just insurance you buy for your tires usually a few percent of the cost of each tire and they will give you a new one no questions asked if the tire has more than 1/3 of the tread left ususally.

I would totally do it. Granted, wheeling up here you dont see a lot of flats anyway.

You're most likely aware, but it's pretty simple to get Discount Tire to drop that down significantly. Just keep saying no worked for me until they got down to covering all five for the price of two.
