Like any other skill, you need to work your way up to it. Being new, 10-12 degrees may seem concerning. As you begin to know your vehicle and become confident in you’re abilities, you will figure out where your own limits are. Right now the Jeep is more capable than you are.

Afer all,

Surprised Jeep doesn’t publish max roll angles by trim level. I guess it would leave them open to too much liability because someone could argue they didn’t know an upgraded wheel/tire or suspension mod would change it.
There are way too many variables to publish "X degrees will result in rollover." Terrain, rocks, traction and vertical CG will affect how far you can go. In a rollover situation you have a pivot point, with a vehicle it's typically the down hill tire or tires. You also have a roll rate. Once your vertical CG goes past the pivot point you're going over. The vertical CG will change based on how the Jeep is loaded. Heavy stuff in the cabin will give a lower vertical CG than an empty Jeep with a roof top tent and rotopax strapped on the top. Slippery terrain can cause sliding which can result inducing a roll rate. Hitting an obstacle like a log or rock with the uphill tires can also induce a roll rate that can't be stopped.

I bet I have been a bit more "off kilter", but this is the only one I documented as it was happening. Everything was dry and solid beneath, so I wasn't too worried. Yes, I could also have taken a different line but it looked too appealing :)

28 degrees is what I had gone so far, but IF I had rolled over, would have gotten stuck in trees. But that amount of roll was not comfortable. I agree if that was on the side of a cliff, totally different story

I don't really notice 20 anymore.

At 30, I start paying more attention.

35+ I get meticulous, and if available, I will ask one of the Jeeps that are with me to come and take a look.

Hit some trails for the first time in my JL Sport 2 Door. So much fun. I had it up to a 20-23 degree roll. Curious how much further I can go before it becomes unsafe/risk of tipping over I’m on stock suspension and all terrains.

25 degrees will really start to get your attention. 30 degrees and your booty cheeks get a work out and your palms get a little clammy IF you are not familiar with the obstacle. Beyond 30, on an unknown I'd def be paying attention to what's going on. I have a 30 degree obstacle I hit and breeze through it now because I am familiar with it but it wasn't that way the first time I did it lol.

Amazing how video and stills truly do not show the true pitch and roll on trails. The way that looked it appeared it wouldn't be hard at all and that the angle was about half of what you actually had. Fascinating. I've taken pictures on steep trails and everything just flattens out. Sometimes I can catch it from the right angle, but more often not.

I hit 24 in Hot Springs Off-road Park last week and it was not comfortable at all. I had pretty high confidence I would be good, but good to know that many of you have gone much higher than that and not toppled over. CG is everything, though. If you have a big lift, a bunch of gear on top or on a shelf inside, along with other outside environmental pieces in play that could be whole different story. That's part of what had me concerned, as I was on a lot of loose rock, much of it large pieces, that I could have slide sideways into and tipped. I do think it's important to keep moving, though, if possible, to get off that line/angle that has you in that position. Dumping on my side would not have been cool, no siree. Especially since it was just me and one other dirt biker in the entire park at the time. That would have been a long hike to the check-in station to call a very expensive recovery service...

As mentioned several times there are many variables that can affect this. In an off-road situation it's not like you are driving on some super smooth and consistent side angles. One tire slowly hitting a rock or root, a tire spinning and grabbing traction, and other factors can put a vehicle on it's side quickly. Another scenario is when you are flexed out, with the front suspension flexed out in one direction and the rear in the other direction. As you move forward the "flex" angles change and the suspension can basically push the vehicle over on it's side.

It drives me crazy how whenever I record photos or video of things that were, in reality, very challenging... the images and video always make it look ridiculously easy and like I was struggling for no reason and just suck at driving.

Recording photos and video that accurately capture the true challenge is an art form I have yet to master.

Trees in the background help a bit to show angles. Lowering the camera helps a bit. But agreed, it's incredibly difficult (impossible?) to capture.

Ever try to capture what it feels like to stand on the rim of the Grand Canyon? Yeah, good luck.

Roll angle? An ol' Army flying buddy sent this the other day. 18 degrees. That left front inboard tire is paying the price.

The 15 degree limit just feels like a roll-over about to happen.
