The cotton ball idea is def better option
get some real cotton balls (not poly crap) and pull a nice piece and put in ear and try that
It will do the job your looking for without the earplug feel to it and if needed you can use it in both ears and still hear, a bit softer but without the wind tunnel effect
Beats closing the windows, or putting the top and doors back on for sure as... it's a Jeep !

Did he mean wheeling (at high speed) or driving to the mall? Besides losing hearing from the above and being around mortars in the military, I'm kind of deaf and slow. LOL
Try being in the artillery! That will make you say, "whaaaat!"

Can't say I get any ear aches riding in the Jeep. I almost never drive it without the windows down save for heavy rain. Every now and then I'll leave the windows and top up just to make sure the a/c still works. That never lasts long though. Just doesn't feel right...

15+ years of sitting at the door riding to altitude skydiving may have affected my ability to hear though... The Jeep, in any configuration, is quiet compared to most jump planes (especially skyvans, god those things are loud). ?

Do you just have driver window down? If yes, try opening another window to equilibrate the pressure.
This...When you open the front window open the passenger rear about 6 inches. It will make all the difference.
