@JEEP392 Needs to weigh in here. He just had his rig outfitted by AEV and it’s a beaut.

I’m running their Dualsport 2.5” lift on the JLUR and it’s been phenomenal.

That said, I agree with their equipment being overpriced. I looked at their bumper/fuel caddy setup but couldn’t bring myself to pull the trigger.

I just got this kit installed last week. It rides great. Only issue I have is rubbing on the control arms when making a full tilt turn. note that I have the Borah Wheels for the JL and running 37 Ridge Grapplers

i am sorry but this AEV stuff is absolutely insane. It is extremely overpriced. 15k and you dont even get a winch with it, have to pay extra. The 12k package comes with a 2inch spacer lift? Come on.... This thing is an absolute rip off. Warranty and everything.

Ideally down the west coast of Mexico.
Have you looked into insurance issues there? Will your insurance cover you in Mexico? I wanna go to Baja California too. Would be really nice. But worried about safety and insurance issues.

It doesn't really matter. My wife wants the extra tank and loves the AEV implementation.

Just because a DIY guy did it, doesn't mean it gets done right. I can think of many things I've missed or done wrong over the 50+ years I've turned wrenches on vehicles for me and my family. They were lessons learned the hard way. I suspect there are more DIY guy errors than professional errors.
Of course, it goes without saying that you should learn the basics first. Especially if you don't have the right equipment.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
Are people really paying to get bumpers and winches installed? Thats nuts. If youll be jeeping youll be fixing. It is worth learning the basics.
I assume so since the OP asked the question.

I would buy a factory extreme recon JLUR and order AEV's front and rear bumper and call it done.

I agree AEV is high quality but nothing beats OEM and you save a lot compare to a AEV built one

The Mexican government requires you to get Mexican insurance if you're driving outside of the tourist zones. You'll also need to get a big "hey, look! I'm a tourist" decal to put on the windshield. Driving the West Coast of Mexico through Mazatlan, Puerto Viarta and Acapulco you will pass plenty of Pemex stations for fuel.

You cannot Cary guns or ammunition in Mexico. If safety is a concern, first, don't buy drugs, carry drugs or even look funny at a drug lord....that's the "rest" of the story behind most Americans who have problems in Mexico. Carry a flare gun if you're concerned about running into bandits. It's just like the US where most crooks target tourist areas and large cities. You'll find folks in the countryside to be friendly and helpful just like they are here.

If you want to overland in Mexico and insist on doing it in a Jeep, you're better off buying a JK.

Doing so in a brand new JL with 37s seems like asking for trouble.

Except, of course, that the factory doesn't produce an XR diesel.

The AEV bumpers, lights, spare tire mount, etc. wouldn't be covered by a 3 year warranty. My insurance only covered the cost of my JLUR when it was totaled, not any changes / additions. Fortunately it was worth $5k more than I paid for it 16 months earlier.
