Have you looked into insurance issues there? Will your insurance cover you in Mexico? I wanna go to Baja California too. Would be really nice. But worried about safety and insurance issues.
You just buy insurance through a 3rd party company, like Baja Bound. Piece of cake.

This is more on the level of having the gun range load the magazines.
Except, of course, when you've been burnt by your mods not being covered by insurance. Except, of course, when you're at an age where you'd rather do other things with your time rather than sit around waiting for the various pieces to show up so you can do that big trip.

A more appropriate analogy would be going to a restaurant to have someone else prepare your meal. Can you imagine being so extravagant when you could obviously have done it yourself for so much less money?

Dude, it sounds like you’ve already made up your mind and don’t need any more input. Awesome! Enjoy your AEV!

Thanks. I wasn't looking for a critique of my choices, but that's the internet. @AcesandEights answered exactly what I needed to know and that's greatly appreciated. Yes, this approach will cost more than alternatives, but oh well.

Yeah I am talking from experience. i could barely turn a wrench 3 years ago. I still installed my bumpers, sliders and winch. Then I went to do suspension and it was pretty hard for me at the time. Now I have done a bunch of stuff, reinstalled bumpers, front locker, suspension work, arms. I am much more comfortable now and faster at it. Bumpers are so easy even when I was terrible at it I did it. Thats why I am saying I cant believe perfectly capable folks are paying for that. But their money their choice! Not judging really. And definitely not making fun or hating people jeez. Just mostly surprised.

Honestly I see minor wrenching and maintenance as part of the sport. It just happens out of need. Not only you save a ton of money, but there are always projects sitting in my garage or something that needs fixed from hard wheeling. So I rather spend 2~4hrs messing with the jeep than constantly scheduling time with the mechanic and taking it there. Honestly, it even saves me time.
Come to CO and help me do mine when I get it. ? 2” and 35s, seems simple enough. I have a Milwaukee impact gun.

Yeah I mean whats valuable to you might not be valuable to others. and vice versa. I am sure you'll enjoy your AEV jeep.

AEV is likely catering to a very specific niche.

I love turn-key modding alternatives, but I find it difficult to see the value in these AEV conversions. For the money, they focus too much on “looks” IMO.

I’d remove some of the over-the-top pizzazz and lower the price.

I don't wrench on my DD typically...because I don't have to. I do like adding to the Jeep. It's part of the hobby. Yet sometimes time is short and I am willing to pay to avoid PITA things.

Called a local shop...got a "starting price" of $500 to install a winch. I'll be doing that myself, thanks. Some things are worth it, some aren't.

My '20 JLUR was recently totaled, so I've been trying to figure out what I'll replace it with. I'm considering buying one pre-built by AEV. Some advantages:
  • Full package
  • High quality
  • Financed into original cost
  • 3 year / 36k Warranty
  • Covered by insurance(?)
  • Love the way it looks
  • Previous incremental upgrade attempts were "challenging" to justify with the wife and were constantly being pushed back to next year
Yes, it's damn expensive, but I realized that I wouldn't be paying labor to have all of those things added over the years after purchase.

My question: how much would labor cost (wild ballpark) to install the following on a new JLUR diesel?
  • Suspension
  • 4.56 gears
  • Skid plate
  • Front and rear bumper
  • Winch
  • Tire carrier
Note that I'm talking over $15k in upgrades. Just trying to figure out if I can use the lack of labor as an additional significant justification.

Now see, this is funny…….

Hey Ratbert, not that you need any validation for your choices but I LOVE the AEV conversions. Are they expensive? Hell yes. But so was my JLUR. Can't believe I spent over 50k on a Wrangler... :surprised:

If you've got the means, I say go for it.

Value, like beauty, often lies in the eye of the beholder. And while I agree that some of their components are over-priced for what they are, what's wrong with focusing on "looks"? I'll be the first to admit that the way something looks is important to me. The color of my Jeep, wheels, tires, etc... were considered based on how they look. That has value too, just as something that's purely function-based has value to someone looking for that.

I take pride in how my Jeep looks as well. But I ain’t paying anyone extra to cover my Jeep with their logos for their own benefit.

Maybe I'm taking this too far or too seriously but aren't we all paying extra to Jeep for plastering their logo all over our Jeeps? Would we have the same passion for these vehicles if they were made by say, Buick? :puke:
