I wonder if they use the same frame suppliers for both models. Maybe that is why the JL is having some similar issues.

How about more info from FCA on related problems with JL?

Any point in requesting to check for bad welds prior to delivery if I have no idea what I'm looking for?

Absolutely...it puts the dealer on notice.

Looked mine over again, and the welds do have lots of porosity, especially along the frame directly under the driver side front floorpan. My build date is 2-1-2018 at 1:00 in the morning.

not trying to step on any toes or tell anyone what to do. I will share my 2 cents...

While I am still waiting for my wife's JL Rubicon and cannot speak to what the welds will look like on it I can share about the other vehicles I currently own.

07 JKUR, 12 Grand Cherokee Overland, 15 Ram 1500, 68 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible, 81 CJ8 Scrambler, 84 CJ7 Renegade

I shared my list to support my following statement. The welds shown in this thread look no worse than those on my above mentioned vehicles and note the time span (late 60s, early 80s, etc). specifically my JKUR looks almost identical in areas. Like one person pointed out, some of the gaps, overlaped metal areas are based on design and are not an error. Whether the welds are good or not, up to your opinion but what folks are sharing pics of is nothing new.

You sir have impeccable taste. Drove a 68 Fury in high school and LOVED it!

Thanks - it's been a fun build. originally a 318 car I swapped in a built 440 (HP block) out of a '71 Polara Highway Patrol Car along with a new TCI StreetStrip 727. She'll move... :)

I fear my track bar bracket is about to go at any time. Porocity is horrid, welds tracks just on top of the bracket end with little overlap on the top of the bracket, large amounts of bubbles throughout, and the end of the weld tracks completely off of the bracket.

The underside of the track bar bracket welds are barely any better, with one end starting off thick with a more rounded glob of weld and then ending with a thin weld that barely has coverage and is at about 1/3rd the thickness of the start of the weld. Undercut welds also present that you can hook a fingernail into.

I have an appt on Tues with the dealership for the steering issue (loose steering and too much play) and will talk to them extensively about the welds on these crucial suspension and steering parts such as the track bar. If there is no resolution, then I have a tentative appt later in the week to talk with a lemon law attorney who has given me the number of their mechanical engineers who will inspect the frame and provide a written and signed statement of their findings for the dealership and FCA.

Hoping that since I've only put about 425 miles on this Jeep and it's a lease that they will just swap it out for a newer build. Will update when I know more. Thanks!

Duh! I reread the first line of your post! 2/2018. Mine was built in mid May so I’m hoping they corrected that issue!

I would hope so. I got under the Jeep again today to inspect more parts of the frame. It'll definitely help having it up on a lift at the dealership. The track bars look to be the worst welds. The driver's side also looks to be worse than the passenger side.

Just sucks because Wranglers are supposed to he built better than this. Definitely doesn't appear the early '18s are up to par by any means.

Perhaps the real culprit is "NOC" , "no one cares" : the chinese welding robots , operated by the fast-talking framing contractors , and rubber-stamped by FCA "non-quality control" , without any inspectors doing any inspecting , all for the purpose of making extra gouge profit for Signor Marachino ; "no one cares" .
