I'm pretty sure Casey Currie has an IFS wrangler. Of course it's more ultra4 long travel IFS than Honda civic/Ford Bronco/4runner IFS and it's built for desert racing.
Yah last I saw that mod it was around $45k on a JK ….

I like this take. I feel like a better comparison video would be to have a jeep and bronco, both built for supposedly the same purpose, and compare away. Answer the question about which one can be made to do what you want, and then how will does it do it? Is it in is element, or more like round peg in a square hole?

My good friend had a bronco raptor, on 37s. That thing was a beast, did almost everything I could (also 37s) but obviously struggled on the rocks. Surprisingly, I kept up with him at anza borrego (desert). My diesel kicked butt, plus metal cloak 3.5 game changer. Steep sand hill climbing, i rocked that bronco!

Latest TFL video, Tommy still hasn’t clued into the fact that the Bronco has the same e lockers as the Wrangler. The difference, when you flick the switch in the Bronco the light comes on. It doesn’t confirm it’s locked. You could drive around all day thinking your lockers are on while all along they are failed. The Jeep system however, confirms that the locker is engaged before the light goes solid. The TRD locker worked the same as the Jeep.
Fact is the Bronco locker activation is not any faster, you are just turning the light on.

It would take a fair bit of cash to get a Bronco of the same value to do what A Willy’s XR can do on 37s and long travel shocks. Doubt you are pulling off 12” shock travel with stock control arms and CVs on a Bronco.

Can it even fit through the squeeze? I remember by TJ barely making it through.
Honestly, times when I had the most fun were with a slight less capable vehicle, but it could still make it. It just took more work and sometimes a team effort. After I put lockers in that thing, it was too easy.

A lot of folks spend big bucks on mods and go out and do the same trails they did before, just easier or taking a more difficult line. Don't forget, the Rubicon gets its name because it could do the Rubicon trail stock before 35's were available from the factory.

Nope, too wide. I doubt I could of either. My 38s are 13.5" wide and sticks out fairly far.

Yeah, I get all that, but for me, it was personally less fun. My buddy had an old YJ with open diffs and a stick. Also, not in the best condition. After mine got a lift and lockers, it was more or less relegated to one who drives up first to be sure we can pull my buddy up in the worst case.
I guess the challenge was missing.
Granted, this situation is likely only present because of the disparity in capabilities between the vehicles on the trip and if everyone had something on the same level, then we could take harder trails and increase the challenge. Though, that also increases the potential costs ;)

Aren't you getting tired of moving goal posts? 😜
=) I mentioned comparing a jeep and Bronco both with roughly 3 inches of lift and 37s, and the video posted has 2 vehicles with axle upgrades, huge lifts, 40 inch tires, portals, etc. Maybe you can claim i moved goalposts other times in the convo, but not this time :movember:
