Warning that is nothing more than click bait.

My alternate list:

Hummer, military spec.

Ford Bronco. The real one, pre 78. Have one. Thats why I have a jeep, can't afford to dent the Bronco.

Modified buggy in Hobbs and Shaw, maybe that peterbuilt thing as well.

Mmm, nothing else comes to mind.

I would dig a Suzuki Jimny if it was available.

The MotorTrend list seems strange to me, a lot of fluff and unobtainable vehicles (some never sold here), and basically says Wrangler is the only Real Deal except maybe the new Bronco. The new Bronco looks impressive, but when I was looking at it because I could not get a 392 XR, they were mostly unobtanium (like my 392) and dealers were asking insane $$$ over MSRP. Like the 392...

I never owned but frequently drove a Scout back when I was working on a college camp/ranch near Steamboat (CO). It went to the manager's son, who rebuilt and thrashed it. He also had an old (original) Dodge PowerWagon; one of the crew got it stuck in a field and threw it into 4WD without locking the front hubs. Spun the wheels off in the middle of a muddy field, great. Boss was not happy, nor was I and the other mech-sort-of-guy who worked with us until midnight to get the thing running again.

Samuri's were popular for a while but I have not seen one for years.

The gladiator is pretty sweet. I have tried to find an excuse to buy one for a while now.

I had a 1988 Samurai.... Bad ass little buggy. Micro wheel base issues though.

My aunt has an FJ cruiser. If they still made them, I would have had to really think about which one I was going to get. Real bummer Toyota stopped making them.

(Apologies if already posted, a quick search did not turn it up.)

Motortrend's list of alternatives to the Jeep Wrangler hit my inbox tonight:

https://www.motortrend.com/features...rz:07222023:jeep-wrang:article:print:owcst:mt

FYI - Don (happy to have my JLU)
Well I read thru that and the ONLY one that can hold a candle to JEEP SWB is a Japanese made Jeep. After WWII Japs needed a cheap car that could do a lot. As a result the US & Jeep gave mfg rights to the Japs (body & engine). As long as it did not duplicate the Jeep, build it and now you know what the FJ was so good.

The rest not so much. About the only that could go heads with Jeep would be the defender.

There used to be a world race, called the Camel Trophy Race. It lasted a few years and quit and my Land Rover Dealer in Dallas got hold of a left over Camel Trophy Truck, I beat feet to get there and spend better part of a day with it.

Jeep SWB Rubicon will do (with the right driver) any legit marked trails in the world. Well so will the Defender and the Jeep driver better be GOOD to stay with a Defender rig.

But there is a rub and I discovered that afternoon I spent with the Camel Trophy Defender...it's NOT a Daily Driver. I got down in Dallas traffic, it was summer and no AC, power steering is crude at best, my JLR stops on a dime and that Camel wagon stopped in a football field. Better have a friend who is a dentist after you ride in one for a while, you fillings will come out.

This is where it failed as a DD, but get into SERIOUS off road and the Camel will go heads up on the Jeep and it will be a true of case of let the BETTER driver get the WIN!

I have wheeled in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Canada, most of the states to include Hawaii and Alaska.

Looks like you can add Mahindra to the list now, in the US.
