I think generator motors can be made a bit smaller than drivetrain motors.
They can be significantly optimized since they theoretically only need to run at whatever RPM is the most efficient. That can also make meeting emissions requirements vastly simpler.

Hell, it can even be a tiny rotary engine like Mazda has in its MX-30 R-EV.

The BMW i3 did it. On small EVs, the mini and fiat 500 EVs are tiny, but don't offer generators. Granted, they are extremely niche vehicles and only now does the i3 seem to have a following lol.

There's a... few people who have stuffed EV drivetrains into CJs and other jeeps so I don't really think it's impossible.

Meh- rear wheel drive only, they used the wrong M-38 styling. This is a 2 WD DJ 3A Surrey (1100 produced) also Dispatcher delivery 13,500. The first 2WD Jeeps.

I have a feeling they're going to make the wrangler with an electric motor and a diesel engine to charge it, like thr Ram is planning.

ATV/UTV/sxs, whatever you call them, those razor like 4 wheelers that evidently can be road driven? How many of those pass any form of safety inspection, crash test, etc? None. yet everyday in my area 4 people crammed into one trying to do 55 down the highway to the local bar.

Why not make a jeep with modern engine with option for 3.6 diesel, 5.7 to 392 gas?, Use CJ7 like body with a roll cage? No radio. AC is $1,000. No electric windows. 6 speed gertrag tranny, AX transfer case. Oh, and a fuel tank I can go 400 miles. Comes stock with 35 and 4.88.

they are soooo much fun tho!

having had an i3 REx, it absolutely is the best powertrain combo for flexibility:
- Small engine (BMW’s was an optimized variation of one of their scooter engines, IIRC)
- Small battery (at least compared to the behemoths out there today)
- decent combined range and practicality

in a two door JL, I could envision fitting the battery in three segments in part of the engine bay, along the driver side floor, and where the tub under the trunk is. Getting rod of the current exhaust path opens up quite a bit of space and with proper armor batteries should be plenty safe there (although I’d be “interested” in seeing how Jeep’s quality of the waterproofing works out). Use the remaining of the engine bay for the small ICE and battery controllers, and you have a really nice package.

oh, and please make it with a manual transmission while I’m dreaming

Honestly, if anyone is not into solid front axle and amazing Wrangler angles, there are better vehicles out there including the badass GX Overtrail.
I'm super happy with my Jeep, won't exchange it for 10 GX Overtrails.
There is nothing like that 🤩

You should create a version of this with a green line representing the axis of your rear axle as well to show how different the angles are between both of them.

Isn't the new Stellantis CEO the old Jeep CEO? So more of the same?

If the top and doors don't come off it is not a real Jeep...
In the spirit of that statement.

If wheels aren't thin, hard, and wooden, they're NOT real automobile wheels!

Huzzah to the early 20th century!

There's enough visible to extrapolate the correct line for the axle.
You know, when my front sway bar is connected, the rear axle flexes more than when the front sway bar is disconnected. I learned about that by accident when my rear tires rubbed. And when I disconnected my front sway bar, the rear tires stopped rubbing because they did not flex enough. I wish my rear axle flexed like that all the time in it's full potential. I don't know what thingy in the Jeep doesn't let that happen, or it could be simple mechanics.

It's simply applied leverage in physics. When the front axle sway is still connected, the body and chassis stays fairly well aligned with the front axle. This means that if the front axle and rear are on different slopes, the rear axle is forced to be further misaligned to the chassis, or flexed out more. But when the sway bar is disconnected in the front, the body finds a more neutral position between the two misaligned axles.
