wife has this on cherokee. Cherokee uses a capless fuel filler with little flippy like lever that close off fuel filler neck.

Not a fan. It needs a special plastic funnel to fill with a gas can. Door is flimsy plastic. It's not protecting anything. Plus I keep forgetting to unlock it before getting out of car to fill up.

And as someone with self professed Homer Simpson hands I have never felt the need for a longer or beefier stalk.
The ladies always appreciate a longer or beefier stalk.

My wife's Honda has a capless fuel fill neck. Clipped inside the spare tire well is the funnel which accompanied the vehicle and which is indeed required when using a gas can to add fuel.

The locking fuel door is metal and does appear to provide some degree of protection. It would have to be locking, IMO, since there's no option to add a locking fuel cap.

I have owned a vehicle with a in cabin release for the fuel door. I hated it. I would constantly forget to hit it before getting out and closing the door. I'll pass.

Agreed. Those are a PITA. What works best (IMO) are those that lock/unlock with the doors.

Company car has the dumb release and I still forget every now and then after driving it for years. The idea that it would prevent tampering is lost on me. Random people dumping things into gas tanks? Never heard of that happening anywhere. As far as stealing fuel the tank is plastic, the skid has plenty of holes, and you don't even need to jack the vehicle up. Stab a hole in it with a screwdriver and throw a bucket under it. I'd rather encourage them to siphon the gas at that point?

Real thieves arent going to be deterred by a lock.
I respectfully disagree. Every ICE car has a gas cap of some sort, so if you make it difficult for vandals and thieves to open yours, it's just easier for them to move on to someone else's vehicle. Obviously, you're not deterring them from committing the bad behavior, but you are deterring them from committing it on your vehicle. I can't fathom that folks will drop thousands on angry bird grilles, vehicle wraps, exterior lighting, suspension kits, winches, and all manner of 4x4 gear, but can't justify a measly $25-$30 locking gas cap. To each his/her own, though...
