Great question. I have a JLR heavily modded/accesorized and a BMW 7 series. I have two answers. Hell No... on the JLR and Hell Yes... on the bimmer.

For me... all about mindset...

BMW = business/luxury JLR = Freedom and DIY.
To each his/her own, but regardless of your use case for each vehicle, I feel like a locking cap is worth a measly $25 or $30 to prevent damage to thousands of dollars worth of modded JLR. After all, if your Jeep is down hard, you won't be enjoying any freedom or DIY, other than replacing all the damaged components....and that's no fun.:(

I respect your criticism. After all I asked for opinions.

I also wish to understand where it introduces issue to your mine. Is it the challenge of the aftermarket installation, the cost vesrus the likelihood of tampering, etc.?
Mainly the tampering thing. Like others have said, if someone wants your gas they are gonna get it, just like if they want your battery or headlights they are gonna get them. Real thieves arent going to be deterred by a lock.

The Jeep has had an easily accessible gas cap and engine bay for how many decades? If this were really a true concern not just an edge case that you hear people talk about like boogie men Jeep would have put locks or covers on them long ago.

...and/or the aftermarket would have provided the functionality, as it has for your hood example, indeed in several different forms.....

The aftermarket sells all kinds of things that arent needed like turn signal extenders. Doesnt mean its a real problem just a product you can sell to people.

absolutely, as sure as sometimes such aftermarket wares are a true homerun in added functionality.

Opinion: perhaps there is no gizmo I could better do without as you say, and yet, I freakin love these. It's just something about the beefier turn signal stalk

Thanks Jeff. Your post was my original motivation for blocking access: not so much fear of siphoned off gasoline or even a stolen gas cap but what junk someone up to know good could pour into the tank

@THAW: right on track. Your arrogance and stupidity finding someone's idea silly. Nothing new. Post an original thread here and increase your count of same by 50%, from 2 to 3 (literally,) rather than seeking to ambush threads (of mine.) Your anger seems to interfere with your ability to reason well.

Of course posting an idea might make you vulnerable to the very criticism you thrive on delivering.

Your post above, from another member: written off as them having a bad day. But with you its a pattern. Learn to play better in the forum sandbox.
I thought you used facts, not personal attacks, to support your positions? You must be having another bad day.

A locking fuel door can be popped open with a butter knife, it won't prevent tampering.

I’ll go against heritage and say if the Jeep came from the factory with a body colored remotely releasable gas cap cover, I would like it just for the cleaner look. Im not sure I’d be willing to pay Lasfit prices for an aftermarket solution.

Prevent?

The issue here champ is deterrence, not prevention.

It is a fact that such a door is a deterrence.

When are you going to get it thru your head @THAW that, while I'm no genius, that I'm a whole lot better at this than you, and these attacks of yours make you look stupid, not me?

Never even knew that gas caps can wear out until all this emission stuff
Yep. As a fellow PA resident, I learned that firsthand, a few years ago during a state inspection appt. We bunted to a low[er] cost aftermarket gas cap, which failed to pass during the following year's emission inspection. Ok, Honda, you win. We fessed up for a factory gas cap and all has been well since then.

Hell No... on the JLR and Hell Yes... on the bimmer.
And that's one free beer to Mark for using the correct shorthand.
