Inside front tire rub

I’m getting ready to head to Moab and doing some maintenance. I noticed the inside of the front tire obviously rubbed something pretty well. I can find anything it could have rubbed on. Any ideas? I haven’t flexed to see if it might rub somewhere then. It’s a JLURXR, stock wheels, 37s.

It doesn't look to go the full distance around the outer wall, and looks to show a spot of "impact" on something where it goes out towards the front of the tread....

Looks to me like you hit something and/or got something stuck between the wheel & knuckle maybe?

If the other side is clear, and there's no evidence of rubbing on your front end steering components and wheel well area; then I'd just monitor it and make sure your spare is good in case that cut is deeper than it appears to be.

That was my thought initially too but the other front tire has a similar mark just not as deep. Both got about halfway around. I did get them slightly used so could also be that but I looked them over very closely and I think I would have noticed that mark. My wife might disagree ??‍

Was my first thought too but it’s also on the other front tire. Hoping that’s still the case. Just wanted to see if someone else had a similar rub and I’m just not seeing where it contacts.

Time to put on something like grease paint and see where it rubs.

Thanks! Also thought of that. But no way I can get discount to say that and I haven’t looked at the machines up close to see if that would have been possible.

Like @azwjowner mentioned, you can put something on there to try and identify rubbing during flex or turn. Though, I'd expect a wear mark all the way around the tire if that were the case...

It sounds like you may have already done so, but look for any polishing on your front end components where the tires may have touched. If check your control arms, wheel wells, etc.

Those scrapes look like they were made by something slightly pointy and/or thin. Do the back tires have them as well?

If so, I'd actually be inclined to think it was during the mounting process to the wheel as well...

No. And the other front isn’t as deep of a cut. I flexed it out and still can’t find anything that would rub that close to the wheel. I’m hoping it was just during mounting or wheeling.
