For the record, she's my buddy's wife. He doesn't go on those trails.
Are we circling back into that polyamory thing from earlier in this thread?🤣

Being they are the lowest-hanging fruit, it made sense to me to add the skids. I don’t see many tropical rocks down here, but I do plow over the occasional downed tree, and I go out to AZ periodically to wheel.
From what I noticed the rear shock mounts are the lowest point. Mine were taken some hits on fairly easy trails. I wouldn't mind diff skids or covers. I'd really like to get a skid plate for the oil pan. Maybe some day.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people. :)

Front diff cover is on the front, rear stock one can be pealed off. Also you can back into crap. Overall improves the differential housing structural integrity.

X2, What he said. Big thick covers can help by adding strength to the housing too, in hopes of less pinion deflection.

Definitely John, but being next to the tires they are somewhat protected. Before I head back to AZ though, I may just get skids for those too. I’m guessing they’re fairly inexpensive?

Those were the first armor pieces I bought after I had a rock shift under the rear tire. Thankfully it was only a large scrape and didn’t get bent. An ARB rear diff cover was added shortly after.

I went with EVO's, they were right around $80. @Northridge4x4
Installation: I believe I made the mistake of not loosing the bolts on both sides. I installed one side and the axle shifted. I tried a cheap ratchet strap to pull it back but it exploded right near my face and I almost took an S hook in the eye. I actually used my winch, under my jeep, around the axle, lined up the bolts, done. The other side, didn't shift, 2 bolts, piece of cake.

Fyi, it doesn't take much of a hit to damage/deform those shock mounts. My first time on the trail after installing them, BOOM! the EVO skid takes a hit, zero damage, worth every penny.

I went with Rancho lower control arm skids...reasonable price, beefy and super easy to install. My buddy has the next venture not so cheap but super nice.

1) More rigidity
2) You can back up into rocks, maybe repeatedly on more difficult trails…or maybe that’s just me
3) They look bad ass even if nobody else notices them

People without them will tell you they’re ridiculous. People with them will tell you they’re needed. I expect the same people to chime in on both sides.
They’re ridiculous. But I need one in front for sure! Probably new steering stabilizer too since I whacked both pretty good a couple weeks ago. Followed someone with much better ground clearance and 37s when I should have taken the bypass. But I did it and I’m happier about it!

Why do folks buy aftermarket diff covers - some say for rock-bashing durability - when the diff covers are on the BACK of the diffs?
The ARB cover makes the axle stronger.
It also adds a magnetic drain plug so I don't ever have to remove it again.

Isn't that why we spend all the money we do on our Jeeps?
Except gas and tolls and tinted front windows I'm done.
I hope.....

Its because you aint cool if you dont have shit on your Jeep that isn't OEM. But also some are a little more durable, but to be honest I have beat the crap of of the stock front and rear and guess what. I haven't paid for fancy one. I might buy a couple but it turns the Jeep into the Mall Cruiser, ya know..
