Panties.

Chicks dig them and throw their panties at ‘em. Keep that a secret from the stock diff. cover crowd.

nodular iron....sounds cool rolls of the tongue like butter...lol...

I went cheaper with the black PPE covers that are also nodular iron. I haven’t put them on yet but the shape was stock-like. Hopefully that keeps the lubrication quality the same as stock.

Northridge 4x4 carry’s them.

these have the exact same interior profile as the stock cover..I actually got to see the first cast blank when they were first being designed...I was at the R&D shop when they received the first blank..it was pretty crude looking.

I would love to have cool colorful badass looking diff covers. But I also sway towards the side of I don't buy it until I need it. So unless/until a smash up a factory cover, boring diff covers for me. 😁
I tend to agree with your philosophy. But in terms of differential covers, when you find out you need them, you’re stranded, or worse.

I got mine basically for free, won Metal Cloak’s EJS raffle and got $500 in free gear. So I ordered the covers, diff skids, and a GMRS. Cost me $10 total in the end.

A few main reasons I added the aFe differential covers (front & rear) to my wife's JL after she peeled the stock rear cover on a rock:
1. Increased fluid capacity + more magnets
2. Better cooler (cast aluminum)
3, They look cool (just being honest)

I do like the sight glasses to check fluid condition too.

Why do folks buy aftermarket diff covers - some say for rock-bashing durability - when the diff covers are on the BACK of the diffs?
Today while admiring my Advantek Nodular Iron diff covers I thought about your question, and remember making this picture when I changed my covers after re-gearing. I'm sure someone's already mentioned this, but like many other things on the Jeep as it leaves the factory they're probably trying to keep weight to a minimum. The weight difference between the stock diff cover and the Advantek nodular iron cover is substantial. It's worth noting that the Dana crate axles ship with these nodular iron covers - not the cheap, pot metal covers. Some of the reasons may be they care less about weight and more about protection, aesthetics and stiffening up the pumpkin. And yeh, they look good too.

I am still relatively new to off-roading. As I hone in my skills I have yet to be in place that I can't hike out of in one day, or been with other people. I take a day pack and supplies with me and am always ready for a long walk. If it's late in the day I would sleep in the Jeep and start walking in the morning.

Who said anything about hiking out? I was just talking about having an inoperable jeep (with no fluid in a diff, and possibly a catastrophic failure that costs $$$ recover and then to fix.

I was referring to your stranded comment. An inoperable Jeep just mean it's time to walk.

But yes, all of those things would suck. To me money to recover and/or fix is just part of the game and I like to gamble occasionally. I could spend thousands on all the armor but then the engine could blow, some stupid sensor could put it in limp mode, I could have 2 flats. Hell, I drive manual so the risk of spontaneous combustion is pretty high as well 😂.

I know stronger ones serve a purpose but as I have mentioned before on this site. I am a simple, stupid man, and tend not to carry or purchase things until after I have needed them.
