Prove it.
Sirius Antenna: 68293949AA

One of the components needed to have Sirius radio is a GPS receiver antenna. Android Auto on the 7inch screen can use this to improve GPS accuracy.

Having a GPS receiver doesnt mean that you have a transmitter though. So this doesnt mean you can be "tracked" I dont think.

But that doesnt matter much honestly. The fact you are posting on this forum means you have a device that can be tracked. And you being connected to the internet means more important data about "yourself" is being collected.

Now. can your Jeep send data to stellantis without taking to the dealer? That I dont know.

Anyway I am more worried about what corporations are allowed to do with our data than the fact they can collect our data. They can and will continue to collect information about us and there's not much we can do about that. There is also the real concern of private individuals being able to store so much of these data that is vulnerable to enemies cyber attacks. A lot of it isn't even protected at all.

Would be funny if your Jeep got stolen and then you lost the capability to track it

Living with Paranoia is a choice.
"Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you." - Nirvana (Territorial Pissings, 1991)

Like I mentioned in a different post, I'm personally not as bothered with Jeep (or Apple, Google, etc) tracking me with some disclosure, but I'd be kinda pissed if a dealership planted a Lojack tracking device without my permission or without notifying me. I understand their rationale if the vehicle is leased, financed or still sitting on their own lot. But surreptitiously planting an aftermarket tracker on someone's paid-for vehicle is an entirely different issue than Facebook tracking you (not that I agree with that, but for the most part, consumers should be aware of this behavior as agreed to in their ToS).

Regardless of the potential invasion of privacy, If I want some aftermarket junk installed on my property, I'll do it myself. Same goes for dealership decals and window etchings.

I know when I went to look at a JL back in Jan of 2018, they tried to charge $2485 ( i have the spred sheet that lists $2485 in aftermarkets) and said that it included a gps tracker.

I walked out.
There's a dealer in the area that adds this to each vehicle on the lot plust $1,000 for window tinting, $500 for nitrogen in the tires plus some other nonsense. They also don't disclose this in their online price. The GC my wife really wanted was at this dealership & when our dealer tried to do a dealer trade, that's when they found out the GC was $5k more than their advertised online price. Needless to say, my wife settled for the velvet red GC our dealership had in stock for $9k below MSRP, vs the Slate Blue at the other dealership for $5k over MSRP.

We are tracked in so many ways. “Free updates” are offered to those that allow the device to talk back. Ever wonder how Garmin can provide free maps for life? Yup, every map update gathers your Garmin’s travel data “to improve the user experience“. Your credit card, smartphone, Fitbit, WeMo, Alexa, IFTTT, tablet, FaceCrook, and anything else that connects you provides data. Heck, your cable TV receiver (that you are forced to rent) made Nielson Rating surveys obsolete. They just monitor what channel is on, what time, how long, etc. Theres a reason only the ISP can “push updates” to your cable modem yet you can’t…..LOL

Cripe,, wastewater treatment plants are used to track COVID locations. Who says your crap is useless?

TBH, this should be the real concern. Companies track all of this data, but the vast majority have yet to understand the value of what they have, primarily because they don't really honestly understand what all they have.

It's akin to if you rolled into town and bought up all of the storage unit businesses in town. You now own a metric crap-ton of stuff. There's *bound* to be something valuable in there, but it's just damn near impossible for you to go through all of it to find it.

Sure, some folks have figured out how to dig through all the junk to find the nuggets of value, but doing so is EXPENSIVE and time-consuming. Yes, of course you can use AI and machine learning to help, but first you've got to have someone who understands HOW to use AI and machine learning, so that they can tell it what to look for, or properly interpret what it found.

The *presence* of the data shouldn't concern you. It's so far gone at this point in our civilization that there's literally nothing you can do about it, and anything you try to do is basically futile. It's basically impossible to be fully "off-the-grid", even for someone who is actively working toward it.

The *use* of the data is what should concern you. But even there - the number of companies who can actually make sense of the immeasurable amounts of data that we as a species have created is so infinitesimally small, it's almost meaningless.

Yeap. and btw I am talking from my own perspective as a data scientist, I work with large amounts of data daily.

This is what was in my JL when I bought it new from a Jeep dealer in 2020. The dealer had already pre-installed these in most of their vehicles on the lot. It was listed on a "addendum" sticker next to the factory window sticker as part of a dealer "pack" which included this , window tinting, etc... I told them I wouldn't buy unless they removed it and deducted the addendum. This unit is easy to find and uninstall your self because it uses a "jumper" plugged into the factory OBDII conector.

Funny thought…
Dumb guy comes home after cheating on his wife with another woman. Wife goes, “And where have you been?!” Dummy responds with, “Oh, just out bowling with the guys.” She then turns to him, “You know I work for FCA, right?!” ?
Poor dummy had no idea what was hiding under the dash of his new Jeep this whole time… ?
Moral of the story…? Be honest - you never know who is tracking you or how these days!

Finally had the chance to take the doors off for the first time today. Just because. When putting them back on I was plugging in the driver door and saw an LED blinking down in the pits of paneling LOL. Look who I found! Big brother.
it was behind the door plug hanging loose right behind the panel plugged into a flat connector and blue wire bundle. Buhbye big brother.

If someone can identify me by sorting through random crap at the sewer facility and figuring out which one's mine, then they've probably earned that little nugget of intel.

OP, did you finance the Jeep? I've read previous threads which have IDed it as a device to facilitate repossessions.

I purchased new in June of 21' at Jerry Ulm in Tampa. The dealer had already pre-installed Lojack, free for the first year. You could extend the subscription if you wanted during finance.
