The key point was “drama free”, but even with wild gesticulations the others would be challenged. In a situation like this, massive torque, at super low rpms, is a huge asset. I love the way it just chugs up the hill. It’s a beast. :)
I agree, diesel motors are beasts. I just don't think "beast mode" was required here. Good surface, truck wasnt actually "stuck" and truck was able to use it's own HP as well.

Sounds like your already starting your frenzy so probably best to list that Jeep on this forum and get it gone fast
Half of KBB with all the worry about the engine and all and one of us will help you move on
Perhaps a nice Kia next time

Quite the opposite. Only interested in determining the truth from the fake news on the diesel exclusively. I believe that it’s the only thread of its kind.
You will never get the truth from a forum. You have a 2021 JLURD so just enjoy it. If it breaks, and all engine types do, fix it.

My gut feeling is that most diesel owners have had no significant issues, and thus they don't bitch. Nor do they post, "Hey, I have no significant issues!"
Hey, I have no significant issues! :)

Seems like just last month I bought a brand new 2015 JKUS. A month later, I bought a travel trailer with a gross weight and tongue weight under the max for my Jeep.

It really struggled to pull it. I had to take back roads down to the Texas coast and stay below 55.

So I bought a brand new 2016 Dodge Ram with the 1st Gen Ecodiesel, added a GDE tune before it had 200 miles on it. That little baby diesel pulled that travel trailer like it wasn't even there while getting 19-20 miles per gallon. And I had zero issues with that pickup.

When I found out that the Ecodiesel would be an option in the JLU, I ordered one as soon as I could. I've had it for about a year and a half now, 14,000 miles and.........zero issues.

I've still got the JK but unfortunately I sold the Ram and the travel trailer. But I'm happy with my JLUD and plan to keep it for a very, very long time.

Is there a real sentence in there somewhere? I'm dizzy just reading this. :)

I had one of the first 3.0 off the line but it was bought back for electrical gremlins, so not specific to diesels. I still miss that engine.

To address your concerns, the high pressure fuel pump has had failures and when it detonates, it fouls the entire fuel delivery system and can be pricey to fix out of warranty. Can’t say the frequency, but it is known.

Other than that, if you keep it long term, the emission system will likely need servicing at about 100k miles. DPF will probably need cleaning. There are products and videos for DIY, otherwise it will probably be 1-2k.

All things considered, I’d take my chances with the smooth reving 3.0 over my violent 392 for longevity and the torque numbers are close enough. It seriously is the best platform and I always intended to get another one.

This is my 3rd diesel Jeep. The first was a 2007 GC and the second was a 2015 GC. The 07 had the Mercedes 3.0 Which was not as good as I would have guessed. The 15 was great. I put nearly 90k on it with no troubles at all. So far, the 20 JLURD is awesome. 30k and no troubles other than the battery. Love my diesel.

I know I am having a life-altering-ly significant issue... I am not able to take my beast off-roading enough. When I do, it's always a battle between doing the harder trails or the more scenic trails... This issue is directly related to having the Diesel I don't have any concerns with power or fuel usage to distract me from the issue of not being able to go four-wheeling enough...

It is funny you say that, and I am sure there is some sarcasm in there, but I have had a couple opportunities to drive 392s on and off road, and honestly violent is a good word for it (and not in a bad way). The best analogy I can think of is thaT hte 392 is heavy metal. You get in it, you jam, you bob your head, you hop in the pit and just release all that pent up frustration and feed off everyone around you doing the same. It is unbelievably fun, but there is a price to pay. The Diesel is like classical music. It's slower, but methodical and composed and its raw power is so well tempered that while it can be every bit as exciting as metal, it does it in a way that you don't even realize you are swept up in it because you're transformed by it.

I may be a little bitter, but my '21 is still in the shop after more than a month.

Seems like quite a few of us have had oil leaks on the '20 and '21 models. I had a pretty significant leak develop on the driver's side at ~6k miles, and now a valve cover leak on the passenger side at ~25k miles.

Dealer says my ECM also failed again, so this is the second replacement (first was replaced during the 6k repair). I had a few limp-modes triggered on the freeway last summer that look like they were caused by low voltage.

Had a few high-temp limp-modes triggered after the 6k repair but those seemed related to dealer tech not properly flushing/bleeding the coolant lines ("not a big deal" says service manager).

And now I hear my EGR valve failed and filled the lines with coolant, soot, and gunk (service writer's words). So still waiting on those parts.

My Jeep has been at the dealer for ~100 out of 750 days already. Most of that seems to be waiting on parts or STAR expertise. I've owned 10+ Jeeps and this has been my favorite to drive, wheel, and even look at. So many friends keep telling me to dump it, but there are so many things I love about it. And I don't want to go back to the 3.6. For the remote trips I do a few times a year and the towing I do, the 4xe doesn't make sense.

I had the heads fail on both 3.6s I had ('11 WK2 and '14 JKUR), and coolant leaks on the '11. Just to say I know issues aren't limited to the diesel. My wife and I loved the gen2 diesel in our '18 WK2 Trailhawk for the 60k miles we had it, and that convinced us to order the JL with the gen3.

The simple fact is that the internet is a terrible predictor of performance. Generally speaking people who post do so because they either love something or, more often, hate something. This leaves out a vast silent majority who are simply content and don't feel compelled to shout about it on a forum.

Enjoy your EcoDiesel...
