For whatever reason, finances, boredom, leases, mechanical, how long are you planning to keep your JL Wrangler?
Also, what is the reason behind your decision?
They last and are just so much fun. Plus, it is a hobby to work on Jeeps. I have the lifetime Maxcare bumper to bumper warranty, too.

My 2008 JKUR was 18 years old and had 193,000 miles on it when I sold it. It ran like new and looked great, even after years of off-roading. It had the lifetime powertrain warranty. I only sold it because I wanted a Gladiator. Otherwise, I would have kept it. It now has over 230k miles on it and was just sold to another guy still in great shape and running strong. The JL is all that and even better.

5 years old now with only 30k miles, so it’ll be around a long time. Long paid for, so whatever breaks, I’ll just fix and improve.

I've found the estimates around $12k plus labor through the dealership right now but I've had electric cars since 2015 so have some reference points on the decreasing costs of batteries and repairs.

The battery warranty is good until December 2032, so basing my decisions on the warranty timeline as well. Fairly confident this battery will need to replaced under warranty before then even though currently it's still super strong ( 2.5 years later ). The expected warranty replacement certainly impacts my evaluation.

China has LFP batteries down to around $100/KWH but it's still around $120ish/KWH outside China, obviously including the US.

NMC packs carrying a slightly larger premium like $20 more or so per KWH.

At around $100/KWH without subsidies you start to get the cost parities against gas vehicles, and the general push is to drive down costs to $75/KWH or less by 2030.

Will all that happen? Who the hell knows. I think so. But i've been wrong before. Once. I think.

Or the thing might just spontaneously combust and melt to the ground tomorrow in which case I'm involuntarily in the "until it blows up" category.
A much larger Tesla battery ranges $12k+

Seems Jeep is playing games with the battery cost, maybe using the high price to screw the tax man during this 8-10 warranty period

Looks like the min for that conversion is $32K? Not sure I can make sense of putting that much cash into a 10+ year old JL ...
Yeah, you're making sense. I have been wringing my hands over having Motech put a GM LT engine in my 2018. It's just too crazy to do it to that old of a vehicle. But, I have more dollars than sense. That's the problem.

I put until it blows up...then we'd probably fix it and keep going . My wife's has been trouble-free until this week, when the front left brake hose collapsed and locked the caliper up. Currently out of commission, but thanks to our son we have enough vehicles to go around anyway.

We really do love our Jeeps. We still have the '03 KJ that my wife bought new in September of 2002. Brought both kids home from the hospital in it; years later both learned to drive in it, and our daughter is still using it. It's got some issues (rocker panel rot, leaky valve cover gaskets) but still gets her around locally which is perfect for her.

Plan? When it either becomes annoying or pisses me off, it’s out. There’s no planning for that.
Mine annoys me and pisses me off a lot. But I like wheeling it on the trails more....for now.

Absolutely. If my numbers are even close to accurate then a new battery without labor should around $2k. No way people are paying cash for Jeep's current mark up price once warranty is out. Mine's a 2023 so I'll have a couple years to watch how Jeep prices out non warranty repairs before my warranty is up.

I see prices from $1,200-$12,000 being talked about, for the 4XE battery pack. Which is more believable??

I looked over the Motech site, it says they only work on JK Wranglers.

Tired again
I need it to last as long as we have our motorhome. Jeeps are great TOADS. Anything after that is a bonus, especially now that I'm retired and it's not a daily driver anymore.

I went with 10-15 years because I hope to outlive it!

They've been doing JLs for some time now. No CARB approval though. Would have to register in MT or somewhere.

I had it built for me, so I plan to be the only owner.

I had my last Jeep for 18 years and the only thing wrong with it was the air conditioning stopped working. It had about 68k miles on it. This one will have much less because I do not plan to move ever again.
