Forever and then passing to my oldest daughter when I can no longer drive it. I have 2 Jeeps currently. 1993 YJ 4.0 and a 2020 Gladiator. I have had the YJ for 22 years. Wow, I did not realize how long I have had it until I typed it.

I can understand why people like keeping vehicles a long time, but I can't do it myself...every couple of years the new vehicle bug hits....I bought my first new truck in 1977 (been driving since the early 70's)and about every two years I start all over again.....since 1977 I have only bought 4 used vehicles (two low milage subarus and a low milage mazda for my kids and a mid 80's cutlas) It is a habit I think I inherited from my dad as he never kept cars longer than 2 years...I have had 5 wranglers and none have been kept longer than 2 years.....if you really want to talk crazy motorcycles have been even worse for me lol.....bought my first at 12 years old and literally were addicted to them....

Fortunately my daughters have not inherited the new car bug gene...my oldest has had the same 2014 CRV I bought for her new and my youngest the same 2017 Civic I bought for her new..
I hope you're leasing.....

Never was a plan to get rid of my Deep Ocean Blue Metallic 2019 JLUR (I initially thought, UNLESS they came out with the 392 in my favorite color). BUT will eventually do the AMW 392 conversion and as others have said, it will probably outlive me.
I would love to do the 392 swap, but the 392 has issues too, with the lifters. Or, is it the deficient oil pump causing lifter failure?
The LS swap is tempting too.

I love my JL and have no plans to replace it anytime soon. I usually don't keep cars past 5 years, only a couple have made it that long because I really enjoyed them. However, Taz takes the cake. This is a childhood dream come true. I've always wanted a Jeep since I saw them in the 80's, and then MacGyver had one lol. Loved that show. If/when I ever trade him in, there would have to be another manual offering. That will be a major factor to that decision. I wouldn't have bought the JL if it was an auto. The 6-spd is just so much fun to drive...I just wish it had a better clutch from the factory. If they kill the manual, I'll be trying to keep him forever.

I do regret selling my older Jeeps but they were basic vehicles. Any experienced mechanic could rewire, repair, replace (aftermarket of fabricate), almost everything on the old Jeeps and other vehicles. In my opinion, that won't be able to be done years from now. I would ask a tech how long to keep a vehicle. Are parts available? Are computer updates available? Are the repairs needed just a temporary fix where other parts will failing spite of or because of the repair? I would trust the techs to make the call.

I'm hoping not to buy another vehicle, so beyond 10+

I have a 2021 4xe, it's amazing, but if đź’© fails after the 10 year warranty(2031), at that time I would prefer a non 4xe, because I would be doing a lot of cross country traveling, bucket list is all 51 states + Arctic sea , I'm hoping someone comes up with an engine swap to drop something like a 5.7 or better in a 4xe.

Right now my concern is corrosion, it's starting on the hood, and a couple of hinges are showing signs. I will try to push the corrosion warranty to the last minute.

If the corrosion comes back after that, maybe a wrap or body liner.
51 States? What did I miss?

I would like to keep it a long time, however, the truth is these things are so electronically complex and reliability will likely take a dive as it gets older and electrical/tronic parts will become unavailable. So, keeping it for the long haul is less likely.

Agreed. Also, if not able to do own repairs, at the mercy of shop and dealer costs. At some point doesn’t make sense if things go way south. I, unfortunately fall into this category.

Although if jeep became its own independent brand, id start my stellantis garbage on fire that morning.

Being I drive a 4Xe - until it blows up is the correct answer

I would love to keep it a long time. But as little things happen, or in your case big things, and the trust goes down that’s when I start looking for something else. Since my wife drives my vehicles occasionally that is a factor. I don’t mind getting stranded. I don’t need to add her getting stranded to “the list”. You know the wife list where nothing seems to get erased or forgotten. Not talked about, but just there.

The first car I bought with my own money I got in 2011 and traded in 2025. This is the first new vehicle I've ever owned, so I want to keep it as long as financially feasible. 10-15 years isn't out of the question, unless tech/model changes make me want to get a new one.

Though if Jeep came out with the C6 small truck concept in produced it, Id have a hard time keep8ng the 2 door JL I currently have. Especially if it came in Fathom Blue and that roll bar.

Are they any more electronically complex than the JK was? They use a CANBUS system like the JK did and JKs are not known for electrical issues other than the stupid locker issues JLs and Broncos still deal with.

For whatever reason, finances, boredom, leases, mechanical, how long are you planning to keep your JL Wrangler?
Also, what is the reason behind your decision?
I purchased my 2010 Sahara wrangler new. After 15 years and 175K miles I ran out of upgrades and projects to do. So I purchased a new 3.0L turbo Rubicon and love it.

Life hack: Don't give into the temptation of new car smell, keep your vehicles as long as they are somewhat reliable and don't become a money pit.
Also don't compound the issue by putting lots of money to mod your jeep because you will not recoup the costs of them on a potential trade in.
That's adorbs. But, it isn't bad advice.

There's a balance between living in the now, enjoying things in one's prime, and saving/planning for the future, whatever that may be.

We didn’t scrimp and save and invest in order to continue to scrimp and save after retirement. I don’t mean be foolish, just shift gears and enjoy some of it.
