Hey all,

Like many of you, I dose my diesel fuel with Hot Shots every fill up. I won’t discuss the merits of doing so in this thread.

What I’d like to discuss is the bottle. I like the dosing feature, but the seals on the bottle always fail, especially when I gain altitude in the mountains.

For now, I’ve switched to this:

I’ve never had a Stanley flask fail, even when hiking up to significant altitudes. I’m hoping it can keep me from having another Hot Shots leak in the car; it takes WEEKS for the smell to dissipate.

It’s a bummer to lose the dosing feature, but I’ve used the same paper funnels for so long, I’m pretty sure I can eyeball it.

Anyone have any better ideas? I’d love to hear them!

Never owned a diesel, but just recently received a Stanley thermos in charcoal grey as a gift (20oz classic trigger-action and fits perfectly in the JL cupholders) and now I'm kinda bummed I can't buy a color-matched flask for my "additive" ?

I just keep a couple bottles of EDT, the MOPAR fill neck funnel and some paper towels double bagged in gallon freezer ziplocks. I change out the bags every other month. No leaks, no smell. ?

I'm waiting to take delivery of my new ecodiesel but have been thinking about the same problem of leaky smelly additive bottles. I'm looking to get something like this since its made for fuel and shouldn't leak with pressure changes.

That looks like it would work as well. The flask is built for high-proof alcohol, so I think it’ll work as well. I prefer the shape of the flask for storage. But I think you have the right idea as well. I’ve tried the paper towels and zip lock method, only to find that the bottle got so messy that I didn’t like it.

Same, ziploc baggies for the funnel and container. I also dump 1/2 bottle of Hot Shots Extreme to a full tank every oil change, no clue if it does anything but in my mind it does.

I'm pleased to say that the (potential for) smell is the worst part of Ecodiesel ownership. And...that ain't bad. [unless you ask my wife. :)]

Ha! The smell of EDT is nasty. I found some generic baby wipes gets rid of it easily though so I don’t care as much anymore.

I dose every other fill-up and keep it out in the garage, I usually pour it in after filling up.

I use a molle pouch that hangs off my tailgate table for the EDT. It’ll probably still leak but hopefully it’s further than my center console and won’t bother me as much.

I found plastic squeeze bottles online with screw on caps with measurement indicators. Easy and convenient with no mess. I have kept them under the back seat on it's side for over a year now with no leaks. Buying EDT by the gallon is much much cheaper.

Unfortunately, they're no longer available, but I'm sure you can find similar ones.

i just keep my additive bottles pointed up in a corner of an Action Packer in the back.
they don’t fall over, so they don’t leak, so they don’t smell.
