Between 7 and 16 percent prior to 100,000, depending on how you define āfailureā.
hereās an internal FCA document hinting at the scope of the problem.
compare the failure rate of the Cummins for the same time period.
16 Ecodieselās requiring replacement PER WEEK versus 2 Cummins. Thatās a...
Grostage,
you make one valid point: perhaps I shouldnāt have used hot shots. I havenāt used it in my Duramax, and itās been trouble free so far.
Iāll never know if that was the source of my troubles or not.
But youāre wrong about the recall. The āfixā offered is to replace the existing fuel...
Are you even reading my posts? I saved for years and purchased a $64k Rubicon Diesel. It lasted less than a year. It was in the shop for about a month of that time because of random check engine lights. It finally went into limp mode and needed a $10k repair. Yes, it was covered under...
??? The Ecodiesel is a terrible engine. It is a time bomb. Stellantis gave up on it for good reason. I didnāt want to believe it because I wanted a diesel Jeep so badly. I Convinced myself that irresponsible customers were the problem.
I thought I could ādo it right.ā
thereās no right way...
The trick is to sell your Ecodiesel BEFORE it fails and you lose thousands trading in an inoperable vehicle.
i took every precaution, followed all the wisdom offered on this site.
my engine lasted 16k miles.
get rid of it NOW!
seriously, today.
They gave me $45k for a $64k car with 17k miles. They didnāt specifically say the value was hurt, but numbers speak for themselves. Jeeps usually holds their value better than that. This depreciation is more in line with Fiat.
Update #2:
all the engine error lights are back on and the Jeep is once again in mouse mode.
Iāve traded my nightmare lemon Jeep in on a GMC 1500 with the Duramax LZ0 engine. Other than a few mild complaints about it burning through oil during break-in, it appears relatively drama-free.
BTW...
Update: I went to a different dealer. I told them about the circumstances of it going out. It was 110 degrees, AC on high, passing a truck on the highway.
they said it was likely temporary fuel starvation due to the high temp and āheavyā use.
They reset the error codes, et voila...
no. Iāve been very careful. Warm up/cool down procedures always followed. EDT used religiously. Very little stop and go; I mostly commute between Las Vegas and salt lakeāexactly the kind of driving well suited for a diesel.
oil changes performed at 8k and 16k, 2k prior to the dealer recommended...
Just got my Jeep back from a 10-day stay at the dealer due to a check engine light (cam sensor). They couldnāt replicate the warning, so they just gave it back and told me to come back if it does it again.
Great. āTow it back when it breaksā.
Today, while driving from Vegas to salt lake, my...
My 23 Ecodiesel is intermittently throwing a check engine light. The error code resolves to a cam sensor fault.
The engine seems to idle rougher than usual for the check engine light is one, but then it seems to resolve itself.
the dealer Recommended keeping the Jeep for a full diagnostic...

I got my 2023 recall Iām the mail today. So they can sell vehicles that they KNOW will be recalled, but the consumer canāt re-sell them?
thatās dirty pool, there.
I did too. I steam cleaned the piss out of it, then fabreezed it every few days for a couple weeks.
the smell definitely lingers. About a month later the smell was pretty much gone.
I think Toyota is wisely investing in both electric and hydrogen tech.
At this point, itās impossible to know which technology might be beta-maxāed. A reliable solid-state battery would tilt thing in favor of electric, but a cheap hydrogen solution would do the same for fuel cells.
The...
