I haven't noticed any buffeting in my Sahara hardtop unless the front window are open and not the rears.

I just measured my hard top wind noise with an Android app called 'Sound Meter' and I got around 77db at 75mph. From what I've researched that's on par with what a soft top produces? Anyone else getting these levels of wind noise? Also, last night I put painters tape over the top front windshield to freedom panel seal the whole width of the Jeep and didn't see any real noise reduction. I've adjusted the panels a few times and made sure the windshield bolts were tight and nothing. I'm assuming it's just an aerodynamic issue that won't be easy to resolve possibly enhanced by the hood louvers/geometry. This is my 7th Jeep (2 were JKUR's) so I'm familiar with road/wind noise but I was hoping this one would be significantly quieter to appease the fam on long road trips.

My JL sport has pretty good wind noise. I can't compare it with one without the headliners because I never bothered to take mine off but if it really bothers you try testing one with the alpine with active noise cancellation. I can say it really made a very noticeable difference.

Here a video of the noise....honestly it doesn't sound as loud in the video as it does in real life. And I have the Alpine audio option....obviously the radio wasn't on during the test. I think the cell phone cancels out some of the wind noise too.

I have a PST, not a hard top, and I don't find it noisy in the least... it's quieter than I expected it to be, anyway.

Anyhow, I'm just here to post this picture in case it helps someone. I had a pretty annoying rattle emanating from the driver side dash where the pillar meets the speaker. It would go away in the rain or after a carwash so I figured it must be air ingress. I was right.

So, drop your windshields and see what may be hiding!

Wire bundle poking out through the weather stripping and letting air in and under my dash which caused something (wire harness? speaker enclosure?) to rattle.

I just took delivery of my 2019 JLUR a week ago and it does have considerable wind noise coming from the top center of the windshield (I think). I adjusted my panels to be even forward and back but that didn't help much. Kind of surprised it's louder than my old 2011 JKUR.
Hi rayzjeep,
We regret to hear that you are experiencing a wind noise on your new JL. If you decide to have this addressed by your dealer, please send our team a private message!

For ones that are experiencing the buffeting noise. Was it with a 2.0 or 3.6 engine?

Long shot theory but curious if the active noise cancellation system is causing it. I have a grand Cherokee with the system and sometimes it gets wonky and will do this exact same thing. Pounding the ear drums like a window is open even though there isn't. Then it will all of the sudden go away.
So I auto started my 2.0 tonight and when I got in it I swear I heard the buffeting. I too feel like it’s the active noise cancellation going bonkers. I’m not sure if it has to calibrate or something or if a microphone might be disconnected, but given the low speeds I hear the buffeting at I feel it’s possibly the noise cancelation.

Does anyone know how to disable the noise cancelation so I could test my theory? I couldn’t find an option in the settings. Is it a fuse possibly?

A pillar noise fixed,
I had noise starting around 50km/h. Very loud with windy days.
The noise was at the lower corner of the windshield frame.
I appears to be the drain tube, I found and 1/64” crack between the upper winshield frame and the seal.
By using 3m strip-calk in the crack stop the wind noise, whistling.
Now it’s the most quieter jeep i ever own.
Conclusion yes a JL is quieter than a JK, the quality of the seals are just now there yet.
Hope this will help some fellow jeepers.

Hey gang. Bought an '18 JLU Sahara...love it. I had two JKs previously and I know normal wrangler wind noise vs. abnormal. The noise I am dealing with (totally abnormal) is a wind leaking sound between the two freedom panels (toward the front). I know that's the location because I placed painters tape down the seam between the panels beginning at the front (not on the windshield) to about 1/3 of the way back and...no more wind leak. Have taken it to two dealers and both have heard it clearly but say that there is no bulletin etc so they can't fix it. They tell me that the scarier issue is that they are hearing the same leak on all the new jeeps that they drive to compare mine too. So, we need to open cases with jeep (I have and they have been quite responsive and attentive so far) to get these issues corrected. Such a frustrating problem but here's to hoping for a fix SOON!

Peace

My best guess if the seal on the panel are fine is the targa lever latch are not well adjusted. You can lower the metallic part on the windshield frame to increase the pressure on the panel.

I'm going to try the painters tape down the middle this weekend and see if I notice any difference. Previously I had put painters tape along the seam between the upper windshield frame and the top from the drivers side to the passenger side width wise. But left the center seam between the panels uncovered. This didn't result in any wind noise reduction. If the tape down the middle does result in a significant reduction I think we'll be able to come up with a more permanent fix. Usually finding the issue is more difficult than the fix in my opinion. Especially with squeaks and wind noise.

It's kinda self explainatory, but look at the middle latches on the freedom tops (mirror area) , the clip they latch to can be adjusted down (slotted)with a Torx screwdriver. The trim panel "pop"s down for easy access. A little movement goes a LONG way..
Hate to take this all the way back, but I can't access the specified Torx screws. I don't see how it's possible to pop down the trim panel. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough but don't want to break it. Has anyone done this?
Torx screws are just to the left of my finger in this picture.

Thanks for this! Couldn't figure out what noise it was that you were fixing. Mine has a wind leak between the freedom panels (toward the front of the jeep). Just curious where your noise was.
