Took 2 seconds on Google: Mirror Laws For All 50 States : r/Jeep (reddit.com)

I'm not aware of a Federal mandate, nor can I find one with a quick Google, if you have it handy, link?

And, the great irony here is, I spend quite a bit of time doorless (and often in a series of large metros no less), AND I (per NC law, but mainly by my own choice) utilize mirrors designed for running doorless. Over the last almost-15 years of my running this way, I have tried a smorgasbord of doorless mirrors. By and large they're useless, and the high quality ones are just marginally less so. BUT, the truth is, when you have doors and top off in conjunction... it doesn't matter. Cause you don't have to lean out of the Jeep to see, you just look - especially in a 2 door. The mirrors are secondary in this configuration because it's easier - and safer - to not futz with them. They're either shaped funny and give you a huge blind spot, vibrate like they're glued to your mom's BOB, or blow out of adjustment from the pressure of the air as you drive. The CMM ones are about the best I've found - but they still have a limited FOV and odd depth perception due to being so convex.

Without all the bits of the Jeep to block sights and sounds, you can even HEAR vehicles and their positioning when on the interstate, beyond just seeing them super easily. So when I say "You can totally run mirrorless and have it be safe" I'm not being a "muh rights" hardass, it's just the truth. Recommend getting some doorless seat time - with or without mirrors, you do you - and see just how good your situational awareness can be with all the stuff stripped off your Jeep.
NHTSA issued Standard No. 111 to establish performance requirements for mirrors installed in each new vehicle. Section S5 of Standard No. 111 specifies the requirements applicable to mirrors installed on passenger cars. S5 requires that passenger cars be equipped with an inside rearview mirror of unit magnification and a driver's side outside rearview mirror of unit magnification that provide the field-of-view specified in S5.1.1. If the inside rearview mirror meets the field-of-view requirements of S5.1.1, then a mirror on the passenger side is not required. Please be aware that in such a situation a manufacturer could voluntarily install any type of exterior passenger side mirror, which the agency would permit as a supplemental mirror.

OK, so manufacturers are required to put them on, but whether they stay on or not is up to the individual states' code. Got it.

Nah, pass...

I'll keep my mirrors on.

The CMM ones are the best compromise of visibility, quality, and sturdiness out there. Yea they are expensive but not overpriced in any way. I had extreme convex mirrors on my bike and mildly convex ones on my Miata so Im pretty used to the view the CMM give you and worth every penny.

Neither of these two are going to do that. See my previous thread on this topic...

You could have no doors but have mirrors. Just sayin. Little experience goes a long way in understanding a thing.

Tons of states? Why don't you list the ones that don't require anything other than a rear-view mirror for the class.

And why does federal law require vehicles to be produced with side mirrors?

Actually, it's true, there are larger and more numerous blind spots on semis and buses. They also have more mirrors to compensate for those blind areas. And a commercial license requiring additional training and licensure is required in most states. Then again, a lot of states have a really low bar for commercial drivers. I'm sure we've all come across a trucker who just landed his first job as a commercial driver with almost no prior driving experience.

I don't. And, if I did, I'd put side mirrors on. Because I use them for more than changing lanes or backing up. Sticking my head out the door to look around isn't my style.

I also have a CDL. Spent quite a bit of time driving a side dump in downtown cores. Mirrors are required.
I'm not going to list all 37 states that either only require a side mirror if the view from the center mounted mirror is obstructed or not at all, but way back on the 1st page there was a reddit post with a state by state list. The vast majority of states seem to agree on this one? There's a few states that don't even require a mirror at all. Indiana says mirrors are only required if the view from the drivers position is obstructed. Vermont only requires mirrors if towing a trailer.

Oh agree, they're the best I've found for the job. But they're not something that is going to replace the Mk1 Eyeball.

You're assuming I haven't driven A Jeep doorless. Just not my Jeep. Or that I haven't driven a convertible, or a motorcycle. Line of sight is probably better in a convertible, or a motorcycle without a full-face helmet.

Yeah, still gonna run mirrors. Yeah, your point is still dumb. ;)

It's a shame too. Really nothing on 4 wheels as good as a nekkid Jeep, and frankly the reality of the visibility and mirror situation is way less intense than their fears of it seem to be. Shame they're missing out on something they'd probably enjoy, that's pretty darn safe if you're just a considerate driver.

You're talking to a wall, neither of these fools care about anything other than posturing themselves as being more safe. Which makes their vehicle choice much more puzzling...

I dont think anyone said to not run mirrors just that yalls pearl clutching is a bit overblown.
