Flaky Alpine headunit 2018 JLUR

The optional Alpine head unit on the wife's 2018 JLU Rubicon has become flaky. Sometimes it goes into constant reboot mode, sometimes it freezes.

Does this sound like a connection issue or an internal head unit fault?

Suggestions on replacement options? Dealer wants $1200 to replace it without having done any diagnostics.

Mine does the same. Seems to happen mostly when I shut the Jeep off for a short time, like to fill gas and then restart, or plug my phone in for Android Auto to start before the radio has fully booted up.

I terested to see the responses.

check out ebay or lkqonline. I put a ‘23 8.4” radio in my ‘21. It came with nav and sxm so I had to add the extra antenna. It’s awesome. Obviously check for compatibility with the other alpine stuff- no experience on that!

I had a reboot loop on my 2019, radio had to be replaced. Fortunately it was under warranty, I was quoted 3k.

I'm updating my firmware now, a few of my issues are in the descriptions on that thread, so hopefully 39.6 takes care of it.

Edit: Updated from 22.66 to 39.6 in 1 step, worked great and all of my apps appeared right away. The "Confirming Subscription" box for XM did not appear, and my radio did not blue screen/crash when I plugged my phone in a couple times. So far so good.
