Up until a week ago I was living in those good old days, then we got a used van with a chunky key fob (that also malfunctions and opens the rear tailgate if key fob button is pressed lightly). And I can't go to Ace Hardware and pay $3.00 for a couple of extra keys for my kids. I hate key fobs but do appreciate the manual window offering on the JL.
Were any of those vehicles manufactured in the 2000's?

I had a keyfob just like that on a 2011 - so yes. Maybe that's why the one for the JL doesn't really bother me...

Yeah, it doesn't bother me either. Though this idea (that someone else brought up) that you could get a spare key for $3.00 is ridiculous. How many vehicles made in the last 19 years doesn't already contain a chip in they key?

Sure, maybe 20 years ago this was the case, but then again, 20 years ago I was a 16 year old boy.

1999 Ford Escort
2002 Chevy Tracker

They all have regular keys, and all 4 on a key ring take up less space than one key fob. Like I said the key fob has some advantages but unfortunately introduces some new disadvantages. I certainly would not like carrying around 4 key fobs particularly of the JL size or having to loan them around the household. A finger print scanner might be a solution. Or perhaps a master key fob that could be programmed to work across multiple vehicles. Maybe those already exist in the aftermarket.

I don't know, one might call paying $50,000+ grand on a Jeep ridiculous, with a 4:1 tcase and locking diffs to visit the mall. But that's just my 16 year old snark talking. ;)

Can anybody explain the "panic" button on the fob?

It just sounds the horn like an alarm (most use it to find their jeeps at the mall).

Looks like AJT design is working on a smaller key fob with the physical key that is stash inside the the fob.

Looks like it should be here in Feb and looking at other products they sale should be like 35 bucks.
Adam Truckey, AJT's principle was very fast in responding to my question that there will be 1 design (from a size perspective; I didn't ask about color) for the JL, irrespective of the number of buttons your fob has, and that design will work with all the JL key fobs of various button quantity amounts.

I just use a piece of scotch tape down the side to keep my key from popping out. Works great., if it gets dirty or breaks I just get another piece of tape

I'd like to also add that in a follow up question to Mr. Truckey, also equally responded to with quickness and honesty by him (he sounds like a good guy), he reports that the "length and thickness [of his product] remain the same [as FCA's JL Fob, but the] width is just under 1.5"

I'm confused with the key fob dilemma. For those who bought the Gibson Leatherworks fob holder, how do you carry it? By putting on the holder, you just made the fob bigger. Do you now hang it on your belt loop or something? Attach a chain to it and put it in your pocket like a biker? I just can't figure it out. PS Gibson makes fine products, this isn't a slight on them.
The holster was a well made product to be sure, but to be honest I don’t use mine. While it does prevent the accessory key from opening in my pocket, it adds significant size and weight. Also the leather is very, very stiff and hard to work with, though I’m sure it would soften over time or with oil and manipulation like a baseball glove?
